The adapter for Sam's button seems to be getting harder to rinse out. I rinse with hot water after each use and soak in soapy water 1-2 x a day. I am noticing some specks of formula on the tube. Any suggestions on how to keep it cleaner????

Hi Amanda, sorry I didn't see your post sooner. I have been very sick this week, another sinus infection (I am sure due to reflux). On antibotics and steriods again.
Anyway, I will forward your note onto Roni, I am sure she may know.
Why not personally e-mail some moms that are tube feeding?
Best wishes

I was wondering how long that you have to use the extension tube before you can replace it? With Justin we use it a week than throw it away and by then they are horrible. I know that it is very hard to keep them clean because the formula seems to stick to it. I know that I used coke in it to rinse it and it helped some times. The soda seemed to pull the stuff sticking off the sides of the tubes.

I spoke with the nurse in the gi office today and she said that I can use it till it "springs a leak" or till it will not come clean. We have used the same one for about a month now and I think I will have to retire it soon. rinsing in hot soapy water after each feed seems to keep it clean. I also found that rolling it between two fingers with hot water in it helps gets the formula off the sides.

Melanie, I thought that it was 'coke' that Roni used also.....but didn't want to say that since I am kind of a heavy coke drinker....just thought maybe it was on my mind that I needed a drink. LOL
Yes, my mother is right. Soak the things in coke for awhile and it will clean them right out. There is also a prescription for something that I used to get when it was really bad but I can't think of the name of the stuff. Give me some time to find it and I will reply back because that stuff worked miracles.
The extension tubes are good for one month...at least ours are. I change Shae's extension at the first of every month and leave it taped to her side all month, I don't even do any special cleaning to it and we've never had a problem. Ya, it's pretty gross by the end of the month though.

Hi,
Just saw this question. I just found a trick with my daughters tubbing. We have a clamp on our tubbing and I simply close the clamp up from the top and slide it down the tubbing to the end while it is in the closed position, then I open the clamp up and run water through the tubbing. It takes everything out.
