Have your read all the infant reflux info on this site? They should be helpful and if not we have lots more ideas! Is your son on any meds at this time? See a GI?

Hi Kate and welcome! I remember the 2 to 3 hours of broken sleep that we used to get all too well. That was back before Evan was diagnosed and medicated. He didn't sleep much if any during the day either. Is your son taking any medications to decrease the acid and to make him more comfortable? Have you tried elevating the head of his crib? If breastfeeding, have you eliminated dairy, caffeine, citrus, tomato, broccoli, etc. from your diet? Do you keep him upright for 20-30 mins. after each feed? These are just a few of the things that you can be doing to help him feel more comfortable.

Okay, I just read your other post, Kate. How long has your son been taking Zantac and Reglan? You will need a two-week trial to see if they will really work.

if its not helping after 2 weeks, ask for prilosec or prevacid... we just switched to prevacid from prilosec, both work wonders while zantac made him worse! Please keep us posted!

Hi Kate, welcome!!

Just wanted to say we have been there and done (sometimes still doing that) that with the sleep too :(

Samson started on Zantac at 4 weeks & we switched to losec/prilosec just last week & he is now 7 1/2 months. We also had to find the right formula for him, as he also had major gas problems. Finding the right combo of formula & meds for your little one will make a huge difference. I know that doesn't help much right now (sorry) but don't give up you'll find it :)

My daughter, Catherine, is 8mo and still just takes 4oz bottles and wakes twice at night for feeds. She simply isn't big enough to sleep through the night yet (not enough body fat per her ped) and bigger bottles are guaranteed pukes. She's on Prevacid, and it's been wonderful for her.

Your son sounds perfectly "normal" for a GERDling! (which, I know is not what you want to hear, but please don't feel like you're alone in this)

Well here we go again......still no sleep...thnk you for all your replys I have been really busy sorry it took so long. Kadien is gonna be 3 months on wendsday. I have tried everything i can think of the 20-30 minutes after feeding prop ups, raising the mattress on his crib, everything....He is on prosobee cause of the gas and colic and he has been on every other formula by enfamil. I am thinking about trying enfamil AR agian cause he was only on it for a week. He has new meds Axid and they gave him a mixture of maylox and benedryl to sooth the silent reflux. It has been a long three months and all I can do is hope its gonna get better. Its even harder when i got a 20 month old daughter who is so demanding of my attention too. If anyone has any other ideas on formula or meds i welcome them........ kate

-Oh yeah they told me he is to young for any other meds....they were not much help

I just wanted to mention that I have heard so many things from moms on here switching formulas around trying to find what works better for their child when it just made things more difficult because 1. The switch upset there tommies and 2. the reflux was making them uncomfortable not the formulas.... it may help though but wanted you to be aware and know that there are threads you can read about others experience with this.

Have you tried mylanta for temporary discomfort help?

Hi Kate,
It is so difficult finding the right combo of formula and meds for each kid. Have you tried a hypoallergenic formula, like Alimentum or Nutramigen? Also does thickening the formula help your little one (or has your doctor okayed it?)?

I have been there. For the first few months, my kiddo screamed about 20 hrs a day. No sleep for baby, no sleep for mom. I look back now and realize how far he has come. Hang in there... In a couple months, you won't believe you have the same child...
