My DS wakes up every morning pooping like 4 times in his diaper. I am guessing this is what wakes him up. Also he sometimes wakes up prematurely from naps due to poops. Is this normal or is there anything I can do to help this? He eats before bed at night and wakes 2x to eat in the middle of the night. He also usually nurses before naps.

 Yep. Normal. Out of my 3 kids, only one never cared if he was in a messy dipe. The oldest fussed and so does the 10mo. If your baby is eating at night and pooping in the am, that's great! Things are moving right along in his system. It sure beats have motility issues. As he gets older, the timing may improve with regard to sleep...

Ditto what lucy said. Unfortunately, it is normal. DS will poop at the end of every nap, and first thing in the morning... :?

Cady poops first thing in the AM, too. sometimes twice or more. Her morning nickname is "pooper". LOL!

Oh, I just remembered you said you were nursing. Nursing babies usually poop a lot more often than their formula fed peers. There is a laxative quality to breastmilk that isn't found in formula (formula can be rather binding, actually). Even older breastfed babies often poop several times a day. It is also normal to go a day or two between poops IF there is no discomfort and baby is well hydrated. I think there may be more information about this at www.kellymom.com - it's a great site for nursing info.

My son also used to wake up with a messy diaper. What really stinks is that it sounds like he'd be sleeping longer/better if it weren't for the poop. BTW, I love your pics -- very cute!

After Emma's recent formula change, she poops first thing in the morning....and usually after every nap. Sometimes more! I often wonder if it wakes her up....but I think she's just in a good "poop position" in her elevated crib! I let her play in her crib for a bit each morning and after naps...gives me some extra time too.. ..so she can have some "private time" to let it loose!
By the way....LOVE your pictures.....he's a cutie!

Very normal and good. :)
My DD used to poop every time she ate and every time she woke up. She was always pooping. It was crazy how many baby wipes we went through during the early weeks. She also made a big production out of every one. Grunting and turning red then ewwwwww! Always a perfect breast fed gold baby poop. (they didn't even stink) She was so regular it was funny. I knew exactly when it would happen. It made people laugh that I knew. Things calmed down as she grew older. But (she'd kill me for talking about this LOL) she still goes at least 3 times a day! I don't look to see if their perfect anymore though. LOL
Imagine my surprise when Eric came along and never made anything but pellets once a day (if we were lucky). and while we were breast feeding it stunk and was greenish. I felt like I was toxic or something.

Oh I also wanted to throw in that now that Eric is regular he goes about 3 times in the morning, and the first one seems to wake him up too. I swear it happens before he has a chance to open his eyes.
He's been off poop medicine for 2 whole months now. OMG he's digesting!!!!!
Anyway,
Glad to hear that your son is moving things along. That's wonderful, even if it does wake him up sometimes.

Yup, those waking poops happened with both of my boys, too. It's great to put a face with your name, Joy!
