View Full Version : Chiropractic Treatment
Kylesmom 09-08-2005, 08:22 PM Yesterday my sister told me about a co worker whose daughter has reflux and that when she went to her chiropractor the doctor asked how her the baby was doing. She told him that she has reflux and the doctor told her that he could do an adjustment on her and that may help the reflux. She said she took her daughter to him on Friday and that she didn't have any problems the whole weekend. I asked my sister if she still gave the meds and my sister didn't know and the lady is on vacation now until next week.
I decided to call my chiropractor and ask him about it and I was told that they have treated a lot of babies for reflux so I made an appointment for Kyle for tomorrow. I'm really curious about this and hope that it may help him.
I did a search and saw someone else had posted about this in October of 2004 but there hasn't been an update on how her son did after treatment.
Does anyone else have any experience with chiropractic treatment for reflux?
I'll post after his appointment and let you know how it went and how he's doing.
Oh and Kyle had his 2 month checkup on Tuesday and gained two more pounds and grew an inch, he's at 12.2 lbs and 22.5 inches long. Yeah!!
Janette 09-08-2005, 08:34 PM A few people in the past have tried chiropractic care. I forget the outcome. Please let us know how it goes!
Kylesmom 09-08-2005, 09:08 PM I definately will. I was just reading some really scarey things about Reglan on another site. I was telling DH about it and he said not to give it to Kyle anymore. So I'm really hoping that the chiropractor will help. I'm going to keep him on the Zantac but after reading there's a 28% chance of neurological problems from Reglan I'm not going to risk it.
Janette 09-08-2005, 09:14 PM How long has Kyle been on Reglan? Have you noticed anything strange? Was it helping? Many kids do just fine on it, but the ones that don't are the ones that we all hear about.
Leigh 09-08-2005, 09:41 PM I would definately stay on the zantac while trying any other treatments. If you find that the chiropractor is helping then you can always try to "outgrow" the zantac dose to see if the GERD is gone.
I have a number of friends who have had success with chiropractic medicine for a variety of ailments, none for GERD however. I am alone in my circle of friends for this. One thing that I am looking into is Bowen therapy for Iain if it can help GERD, I am not sure yet. I had Bowen done on him for his asthma and when his chest was filled and it really helped. Also, it helped my middle son with gastro problems at crucial times.
If it works, do it! And be sure to let us know how it goes
Leigh
Kylesmom 09-09-2005, 07:14 AM He's been on the Reglan and Zantac for a month. I can't say that I've noticed anything strange, but he does sleep alot. Now I don't know if that's because he's only 2 months old, he's my first baby so I don't know how much they're supposed to sleep. Of course there are other times where I can't get him to sleep for anything during the day, he'll take little 10 minute catnaps and then wake up. He also doesn't seem to have much of a personality after a dose of Reglan. Like right now, he didn't have his Reglan this morning and he's just sitting here in his bouncy seat smiling and looking at me and he's very antimated. Of course he's also spitting up his breakfast since he didn't have the Reglan.
UGH! Why does this have to be so hard. If I give the medicine I have to worry about side effects and if I don't then he spits up all the time. How do I know what's the right thing to do? :(
Kylesmom 09-09-2005, 07:15 AM I forgot to ask, what is Bowen therapy??

Kylesmom 09-09-2005, 11:01 AM Well we're home from the appointment. Kyle had 2 adjustments done one for the reflux, the doctor said it was bad and one in his neck that can cause SIDS that one was just a small adjustment. So now I guess we just wait and see how he does. The chiropractor wants to recheck him in a week so we go back on the 19th.
Kyle just had his bottle for lunch so I guess I'll find out soon if the adjustment is working yet. I do have to say that since I didn't give the Reglan this morning he is so much more alert.
I don't know why his pediatrician will say about stopping the Reglan but I have to do what I think is best for him.
Shaes Grammy 09-09-2005, 05:31 PM I went through chiropractic treatment myself for a sore back after a car accident. He had a book of filled with pages of testimony and I noticed one saying wonderful things about helping with infant reflux. He offered to see Shae-Lynne for free while she was visiting. He used a funny light type thing and we were to move it up and down in front of her ( he allowed us to take home). She laughed and thought it was funny. But, I think her case would require constant treatments, or at least more then a few weeks. So basically, I really don't know if it was any good or not. I think anything is worth a try.
Leigh, if the Bowen worked for the asthma, and it helped your middle son, why didn't you try it immediately. Is there any age limit, or other restrictions? I'd never heard of it but it sounds interesting. I must read more. Does it help with migraines?
shniks 09-10-2005, 06:43 AM How interesting, you have to let us know if it has helped. Any updates Kylesmom?
Kylesmom 09-10-2005, 07:01 AM Well so far I haven't noticed any difference. DH said last night that he thinks it's worse, I told him that's because Kyle's not getting the Reglan right now. I didn't realize how much the Reglan was helping him.
When the chiropractor called yesterday to check on him he told me we should see an "almost immediate change" in him. What almost immediate means I'm not sure. I think I was expecting him to have the asdjustment done and Bam, he'd be better. The chiropractor said the adjustmet will allow the body to heal itself so I guess I need to give it a little bit of time.
He did just have his breakfast bottle and he spit up a little bit when he burped but nothing like yesterday so maybe it's starting to work, at least I hope it is.
Shaes Grammy 09-10-2005, 08:20 AM Wow, I am impressed "the chiropractor called yesterday to check on him"..
I hope you notice a big difference soon!
