Have any of your children wretched a lot after fundo surgery? Tucker doesn't do it a lot, but he's so pathetic when he does it, it breaks my heart. I simply vent his g-tube and it seems to help him, other than that, I don't know what to do.

If you kept your children elevated previously due to reflux, do you still since the fundo surgery or is it okay for them to lay flat (or nearly so) now?

He's gained a little weight in the past week (4 ounces). The doctor is hopeful he'll start gaining more quickly. We've upped his volume and calories per ounce. He's doing well PO feeding though. He's taking about 50% PO and 50% in the g-tube. I hope as he gets bigger, he will coordinate the PO feeding better.

Thanks again for all of your advice, you guys have been a wonderful resource and have a very calming effect on a nervous first time mother. As sad as I am that your children are going through similar situations, I'm glad to know we aren't the only ones and there are people who understand how difficult this can be.

I am sorry to hear that he is having such a tough time. I was wondering when he retches is it after feeds either orally or gtube? My son retched alot after his surgery but he has delayed gastric emptying which really became a problem after the surgery. He also had problems with food getting stuck with his oral feeds and would retch everytime he ate orally. I do know that the venting will help because it did my son. I was wondering when you vent him does anything come out of his tube?

He ususally retches after oral feeds, but occassionally after g-tube feeds also. It doesn't happen a lot...maybe 1x a day. But it's so sad when he does it. He gets so scared.

Was your son on Reglan to help with the stomach emptying? Tucker has been on it, but the doctor just lowered the dose yesterday. So far, it's been fine at the lower dose.

Sam's doctor told us that wreching was possible for about 3 weeks post op, but Sam did not have much of a problem with it--only every now and then. I still elevate Sam, but I was going to start lowering him a bit to see how he does, but I am still going to elevate him for feeds.

How are you doing with the feeds--are you still using the syringe method???

The feeds are going well. Whatever he doesn't take via mouth, we give down the syringe. We've kind of figured it out where we don't have spills so often now. He only gets 2 ounces total per feed, so we just bolus feed him what he doesn't take.

Glad to hear his retching is minimal, Eli retched alot after his surgery and it took about 6 weeks until it faded away. He still does sometimes when he needs to throw up. I stopped propping Es bed until he started having reflux symptoms again, now it is propped AGAIN! LOL Glad the feeds are going well :)

Oh No! What are you doing about his GERD symptoms now? That sucks!!!! I hope it's just a minor relapse.......

He is back on meds, most children do go back to reflux symptoms after the fundo, hopefully that won't be the case with you though! We mainly did the fundo to control his reflux because it was causing so many other problems which have definitely gotten better because of the surgery so we are happy :D :D
