View Full Version : Outgrowing Carseat...for sleeping purposes

Noah's been sleeping in his carseat, and its made a world of difference in his naps and overnight. He's 4 months, and he's really long. The doctor says he can stay in his carseat until he's a little bigger. Where do we go from here?

I've tried inclining the mattress, and Noah rolls down hill within an hour, and then ends up with his head below his feet (not good). I've seen the slings, but now that Noah's so accustomed to his cozy carseat, I really doubt we're going to transition back to the crib. I know this is a bad thing, but I really don't care as long as Noah's comfortable.

What about the AMBY beds? They look great, but they're really pricey! From their website, it looks like Noah only has about 8 months left to use it, if that! Are they worth it? What age/stage will Noah grow out of it?

Not sure on the Amby bed, hopefully someone else has experience with it. I know Roni never had money for extras or to purchase anything like that, but she did roll up lots of towels and keep Shae-Lynne very snug in them so that she could not roll down as you are saying. The towels were placed on the sides of the crib and under her butt. This kept her upright and kept her from sliding. She was very tiny and this seemed to work great for a long while. I remember when she came here to visit, at 10 months old, she was tiny enough that she still fit in a newborn bassinet and we kept her surrounded by rolled up towels.

Hopefully someone can tell you about the Amby bed. I agree it does sound great. Did you check the 'classifieds' under Community on the left of the screen. Is there anything there, anything used?

best wishes
Jean

I didn't see anything in the classifieds section, but if you can't find one here, there are some on ebay. Sorry, no experience with the Amby Bed either. But I hope that it helps!

Zac slept in his bouncy chair for 3 months until he got too long. We did the crib thing elevated with wedges and on each side of wedge between the crib wall and wedge we had rolled up towels. I keep a bed pillow at his feet so when he moves downward his feet jam up in the pillow and he can't get down further. It has worked for me. I've heard good things about the amby bed, we were going to do that but the crib has worked just fine.

Hope you find something that works!

Yes, you can try propping him well, the beds they advertise or putting him in his bigger carseat, all in all, I ended up on the couch repropping my wiggle worm all night between vomoiting

I think the amby can handle a weight of like 40lbs or something like that. The issue with it isn't really the weight or size of baby it's more about how active the baby is. I think the age they set on the amby as far as leaving them unattended is 9 months.

Here's a link that might help you.

I use the safTsleep wrap to keep him in place and we LOVE it! It didn't take my very active baby long at all (just one full day) to adjust to it and we saw a difference in his sleep right away. Not only did he not wake as much when he did wake he could get himself back to sleep without my help. I don't know what I did without it. I wish I would have bought it the first day I discovered it. Here's the link to it

I bought the reflux one and we put him in it on his belly (of course that's not recommended). It's very soft and comfy, and easy to use. The only down fall is that it has to be line dried. :(
We (in a way) lucked out because they sent one that was sewn wrong and replaced it with a brand new one. So all we did was get the other fixed by our taylor and now we have back up for when the other is being washed.

We, too, slept in carseats for some time. I knew that they would have to adjust to not being in them so I started out gradually.. I put the carseat in their cribs (it looked ridiculous) but I wanted them to get used to their environment. Anyway, I used to take them out of the carseat when they were fast asleep and put them in their cots. ANd that workwd well.... they just wouldn't go to sleep in the cots!
You could try the safeTsleep or else you can make up the sheets in the cot half way down (which I do). That way, their feet are at the bottom of the cot anyway and they don't have far to slip. I used wedges and rolled up towels too.

Whats the difference between the Tucker Sling and the Safe-t-sleep? Do I have to buy Noah some sort of underwear for the Safe-t-sleep? The price on those two are much more feasible than the price of an Amby bed.

I tried putting Noah at the foot of the crib when it was inclined. He wiggled himself sideways up against the end of the crib. He's a wild sleeper. He does a lot of the arching and thrusting in his sleep.

That's from reflux pain. At least that's what our GI Ped. told me at our last visit.

We too have a wedge in the crib and use towels on either side and a pillow at the feet to keep him in place. Doesn't always work though.

Hey and just becasue they are too big to use the car seat in the car doesn't mean it can't be used as a seat/bed in the house. Ben outgrew his first car seat in length first, Dr. said if we were to get in an accident he could really hurt his legs. Since there is no risk of an accident like that in the house, way not use it. I'm all for whatever makes these little guys happier & more comfie :)
