Hi,

My DD Allison is 4 months old and starting to do really well - yahoo! She has basically stopped spitting up and seems to have no real signs of reflux. She's still on Prilosec and we'll keep her on that for a while longer.

She has been sleeping on an elevated mattress with a home made sling (like the Tucker sling) and sleeps through the night. She can roll over from back to stomach and back again. I'd like to wean her off of the sling and put the mattress flat so she can move around at night, but I'm afraid she's gotten used to it and may not sleep well.

Has anyone who has used a sling made the transition out of it? How old was your child? Did you have any sleep issues as a result of it?

Thanks for any input.

I'd try leaving the mattress elevated for a while longer when you remove the sling.

Thanks for your response. If I don't have her in the sling she falls to the foot of the crib. Guess I could try decreasing the elevation as well.

leHi there...
I just very recently took the high elevation off Matthew's cot.. it's only elevated ever so slightly now and everything has been fine. Having said that, Matty isn't puking in bed anymore. I sill use wedges and rolled up towels to keep them in place. We have never used a sling so I'm not sure what else to advise..... I guess you have to just try and see what happens. That's greta that you babe is rolling about.. I do know that some mum's here use the Safe-T-Sleep to keep their baby in place and they don't slip down the cot.
Check out www.safetsleep.com if you are interested in what I'm talking about!
Good luck with it and let us know how you get on!

I just wanted to say that I was thinking of doing the same thing. I use the safetsleep wrap to keep him from rolling to the bottom at night.

My plan is to just try it for naps to see how things go and then when or if it goes well doing it at night. It will be a pain in the butt to re elevate the crib every night, but I guess this has to happen sometime.

Hey, let me know what you decided, and how things are going. I'll do the same for you.

Just an idea, but I've shared this with several people and it has worked for Zac...I put him between wedges, and on each side of the wedge there is a tightly rolled bath towel between the wedge and the crib wall...at the FOOT of the crib i put a bed pillow so if he scootches down, his feet push into the pillow and he doesn't end up down the hill of the bed...Not sure how long this will last as he gets more mobile. His bed is slightly elevated though not sure how yours is but YES I would still keep some elevation to it. Good luck with the transition though.

Well, I decided to take the sling out and put the mattress flat this afternoon for her nap and she did okay. We're still getting naps worked out since we've only been feeling better for about 3 weeks now (after a miserable 4 months). This evening she went right down (just as she did last night) but woke up about an hour later crying and it took her a good 1/2 hour to get back to sleep. I don't know if it was the lack of elevation or perhaps feeling a bit insecure after being in the sling, or perhaps because she's got a bit of a stuffy nose, or simply that she's still learning how to soothe herself to sleep. But, for now I'm going to keep going without the sling and see how it goes. Since she's not spitting up in bed anymore I'm hoping it won't take long before she has learned how to fall asleep on her own.

Thanks for the advice!

I bet she probably needs some getting use to not being in the sling anymore. Also, you could always elevate her mattress just a "tad" bit. That's how we have Zac's.
