I know that you are to trash the kangaroo bags every 24 hours--do you all do that or do you use them longer ????? I have to pay 50% of all medical equipment costs and the bags are expensive.

I may be going to a day-and-a-half! I just run water through ours after every meal, although the guy showing us how to use everything didn't mention that. Of course, he didn't mention lots of things.... Shaes Grammy 08-14-2005, 06:05 AM Hi Amanda: I know in the beginning the bags that Roni was using she was able to get a few days out of one. But it was a big procedure; had to rinse, using vinegar I believe and wrap in a towel and leave in the refrigerator. Seems like a lot of things with Shae-Lynne are a 'big procedure' nothing is ever simple. The bags now seemed to have gone downhill in quality though and just don't stand up as well as the first ones. I will e-mail Roni and see if she has any suggestions. good luck Jean Roni 08-14-2005, 07:53 AM We used to use the same bag for four days. We were told by the hospital to wash the bag with dish soap (NOT anti-bacterial) and hot water. Then scrub with a bottle brush and rinse thoroughly. Fill it about half full with white vinegar and then fill the rest of the way with water. Leave it sit for 10-20 minutes and rinse thoroughly. Wrap the bag in a clean, dry towel and leave in the fridge until the next use. This would be done once a day, between other feedings through the day rinse with clear water, wrap it in a towel and leave it in the fridge. I'd clean the bag three times before opening a new one. This would give me four days use out of a bag. We now use Zevex and the bags don't seem to hold up to washing as well as the kangaroo ones did so I go through one a day and don't have to wash them anymore. Hope that helps. You might want to run this plan by the GI or doctor before proceeding though, they may specifically decide that it's best to only use them one day in your case for some reason, but for us it worked fine. melba19 08-14-2005, 08:13 PM We throw the bags away after each use. We can not reuse the bags because the formula leaves to much residue in the bag and doesnt clean out to well. I was wondering if your state had any loop holes for med assistance because of health needs. I am in PA and I was able to get med assistance for my boys due to their med issues. They also have private insurance but didnt cover any of the needs for the feeds. If you have the chance you should check into it. Melanie |
