View Full Version : Silly poop question :)

Just curious but I think I know the answer to this but here goes...

Zac has been strictly BF until about two weeks ago. His poops were strictly curdy and runny/yellowishbrown (sorry for the visual!) pre-solids. The past few days (after eating LOTS of oatmeal) his poops have turned darker and more pasty/formed...I'm assuming that's just his digestive system dealing w/something other than liquids passing through. Smells like normal poo (not that I go around sniffin other's poo  ) and is just thicker/pastier.
Hope any of you didn't just eat! teehee :puke:

Sara...

That's not gross! This is the only place you can talk "poop" w/out offending anyone! :D

I agree with you....it has to be the oatmeal. Emma's "plug" she had the other day looked almost like it had fibers in it. Zac's lucky that you are able to breastfeed. It's so much easier for babies to digest and thus poop out. Because Emma's on formula...sadly :( .....her poop has more excess "stuff" that she has to pass, along with her cereal.

We're to add fruit with the cereal to see if it will help it be a runnier consistency.

Sounds cool so far. If you think it is entertaining now, just WAIT until you give him carrots for the first time! Oh, yes you have all the colours of the rainbow coming soon! Let us not forget when he is on solids full time... some of the neat things that creep into the diaper!

Immature digestive systems are fascinating

How much cereal is Zac taking in now? And, how is the sleeping through the night going????

He's taking 5 tablespoons at breakfast and again about 45 min before bedtime! He takes it all in so good that I'm sure he could eat more but that's the "limit" as a full serving.

He's still not sleeping much differently at night though :? He goes 5-6 hours then he's up to eat (which is fine) but he's USUALLY up AGAIN 2-3 hours after that to eat again! Then he's down for about another hour and that's it. However, I don't think he needs to be up at that 4-5am feeding since he's just eating at 2am! He goes longer than that during the day sometimes! I'm going to have to start nursing him very little amounts at that second feeding and dwindle it off. He's been hard to put back down to sleep after that 4/5am feeding the past few days. He finally ends up fussing a little bit and going back to sleep himself. We'll see when this stops. I wish he'd just go back to his 7-8 hour stretch and eat and go back down for another 2 or 3 hours and be up and done w/it. instead of all these little "break-up wake-ups". Most of the time he's up and babbling at 2 and 4am...not crying. I just feel as if I don't get in there and get him calmed back to sleep it will be harder the more stimulated he gets. I just don't know. It's not easy!

Cady does that babbling in the middle of the night thing...well, sometimes. I go in and check on her...just open the door and peak in and it usually turns out that she's babbling to her teddy bear, having little middle of the night conversations...must be pretty pressing matters

Anyway, I've begun turning off the baby monitor and telling myself that if she REALLY needs something, she will cry. I just let her babble her little head off at night. Hey, as long as I don't hear it. Turns out, she's pretty good at getting herself settled, as long as she doesn't see me. This took me a while, though. I'd run in there for every little squeak... She's seven months old now and I JUST go to the point where I can just let her do her thing at night.

BTW, I'm impressed with how much Zac is eating. I still can't get Cady to eat more than 4 tbs. for breakfast. She stops at 4 and won't go anyfurther. Sounds like he's doing great with eating solids. Way to go!

Zoee did the babbling at night as well especially when she saw that Hobbes and I were sleeping in the bed next to her! :D She would love to yell DDDDDDDAAAAAAA! at 4am in the morning! We have find that if she sleeps on her own in the livingroom(that is where she is comfortable) she sleeps better! Babies are funny little creatures!

ROFL!! That's enough to shock ya out of sleep!

Well he DID sleep from 830-400 last night!!! I *think* I recall hearing him babbling at 11 or 12 but he obviously went back down. He also was up babbling at 630 this morning and I was sure he was ready to get up as he slept so good...I ended up dosing off and woke up again at 715 and he was back asleep!! So he definitely is learning to go back to sleep on his own. Which Is a good sign.

**makes mental note to cancel the chloroform order...**

Terrific news! We are gearing up here to start having Iain settle down without bottles at night. I am NOT looking forward to it. As Iain is much older I do anticipate a rough go, but he needed those night feeds all the way through. Often he got more in the night than in the day.

Let us know how is he doing! Sleep deprivation is the worst.
