View Full Version : Is this normal?
AlexysandAaronsMom 07-29-2005, 11:06 PM I'm just a little concerned about how much Alexys has been sleeping the past week. Today she was up about 8 and then took her morning nap from 10 to 11...and then I layed her down for her afternoon nap at 2pm and she slept until 7:20pm. I wasnt sure if I should wake her up or not, but I just let her sleep. Then she fell back asleep about 9pm and is out for the night.
Last week before we went to philadelphia there were a few days when she went to bed around 8 and slept until noon the next day, and was also taking very long naps.
She seems to be feeling the same as usual, just teething , but other than that nothing seems out of the ordinary. Could she just be going through a growth spurt? Or maybe now that shes starting to crawl and pull herself up(yes she did that today for the first time and I almost had a heart attack  ) she is just tired out from moving all the time? I just dont know if I am making a big deal out of nothing
Janette 07-30-2005, 09:30 AM Hi Amy!
Every child's sleep needs are different. Brandon was a text book child, and slept the "norm" amount. Evan, on the other hand, was just to sick to get much sleep. It does sound like Alexys is sleeping an awful lot. Does she maybe have a cold or a virus that she picked up that's making her more tired? The extra mobility will make her more tired, but not THAT much. If not, I'd check in with the doctor at the beginning of the week, just to make sure that it's nothing.
sixdogssixcats 07-30-2005, 09:47 AM Amy,
I imagine Alexys is totally exhausted with all she's been through lately and now her new-found mobility. Maybe she's just catching up.
AlexysandAaronsMom 07-30-2005, 11:25 AM I think your right Lesley...she has been through a lot and she does seem to get awful tuckered out from all her "exploring". Maybe I should just sit back and enjoy all this free time! I am just a little paranoid that its something else, but your right she is prob fine.
sarahh 07-31-2005, 03:22 AM I have to agree with Janette I think. I'm sure Alexys is getting tired out becasue of all the exploring she is doing but sleeping all night and half the day seems a little bit too much. A visit to the doctor wouldn't hurt and would put your mind at ease. Supposedly babies at this age only need 10 hours of sleep at night and 2 naps a day of 1-2 hors at a time (although I totally understand each baby is different).
Love the new piccie of ALexys and I can't believe she pulled herself up!!! She will be on the move before you know it!!! Hahaha!!! Oh well, I guess when the new baby arrives, she'll be able to fetch and carry for you!! :D :D
AlexysandAaronsMom 07-31-2005, 08:32 AM Oh well, I guess when the new baby arrives, she'll be able to fetch and carry for you!! :D :D
I can only hope
Maybe I should call the dr tomorrow....my mommy senses are kinda tingling about this one. I agree that it does seem like a bit much even if she is tuckered out...I just hope its nothing.
Janette 07-31-2005, 09:30 PM I guess in a way you're lucky you don't have a holiday tomorrow, Amy. Let us know what the doctor says.
ZacsMom 08-01-2005, 01:59 PM Hi amy,
I'd say that she's just been through a lot and with the new milestones and everything that she has a right to be sleepy. HOWEVER, that DOES sound like an awful lot of sleeping! Is she on any meds that can cause this? I'd call the doc just to put your mind at ease. Let us know!
AlexysandAaronsMom 08-01-2005, 02:12 PM She is on a ton of meds right now, but she was actually sleeping like this before the meds so I dont think that is it. I didnt call the ped yet but I think I prob should. I am just kind of waiting a few more days to see what happens...she will go a few days with reg sleep and then have 1-2 where she sleeps constantly. I feel like a pain calling them constantly
ZacsMom 08-01-2005, 02:16 PM I feel like a pain calling them constantly
AMY that sounds JUST like me!!! I say that alll the time because I feel like I'm calling/emailing my ped constantly!! I love my ped because she never makes me feel like I'm bothering her. I think that's normal to feel like that but they MUST be use to it! I think all new moms are like that, even some old pro moms! I'd call...put your mind at ease because if you don't you wont be able to stop thinking about it.
Oh, and it IS their job, right?!
Leigh 08-01-2005, 11:59 PM I would call. They are there to help you and with everything that Alexys has been through lately it is best not to let anything get started, right?
Having said all that, based on her meds and experience of late, I would well imagine that your little girl just needs some sleep to help her get over the problem she has. If there is a whole battle going on between good and bad bacteria that could take a bit for her along with the antibiotics to recover from. Enjoy some sleep. I know that you are terrific at being paranoid (! ) and will check her for dehydration, etc. so she probably is fine.
With her added exploration when she is awake just imagine how much that must be draining out of her immune suppressed little body.
Leigh
AlexysandAaronsMom 08-02-2005, 05:33 AM I know that you are terrific at being paranoid (! )
Leigh
 Do you know me or what
I called yesterday, they are going to see her on Wed. The ped agreed although she has every right to be sleepy right now, that she should prob be staying awake more than 5-6 hrs a day. We had to go back for a recheck this week anyway. Hopefully its nothing, although it may be a virus because she has been throwing up way more than usual the past day or so, and last night had a slight fever. Although it could be the tooth popping through too. I dont know, I am done trying to guess anymore it makes me go bonkers
Leigh 08-02-2005, 09:39 PM I know that you are terrific at being paranoid (! )
Leigh
 Do you know me or what
Yep! I share the same neurosis over my kids so I would not have made it to the next day, either!
Great that you are having her seen. I am hoping that she is just taking the rest that she needs at present in order to recover, but it is best to have her checked as she must not be intaking as much as she should be with all that sleep unless she is sleep feeding.
You could use the peice of mind, too. How is the incubating going? Make sure you get some rest, too.
Leigh
AlexysandAaronsMom 08-02-2005, 10:02 PM The incubating  Its actually kind of funny, today I was SOOOO tired and couldnt figure out why...I said something to dh about maybe I was getting a bug, and he looked at me like I was nuts and said "um well you are growing another person inside of you I would think that would make you tired sometimes".....I have been so wrapped up in getting Alexys better that I completely FORGOT I am pregnant!! Yeah thats pretty sad I know
She wont sleep feed....I tried once last night and she woke up and decided it was happy hour, and ripped the kitchen to shreds. Wont be trying that again anytime soon  She is one of those kids thats either asleep or awake, there is no in between.
Leigh 08-02-2005, 10:24 PM LOL! Don't men just surprise you from time to time? What a calm and accurate observation from him. Hee hee. Yeah, it may make you a tiny bit more tired sometimes to have another person growing inside you...
Relax, put your feet up. Get a foot rub for goodness sake!
Leigh
