Help! Looks like Sam will have his fundo/g-tube placement on Monday. Can anyone share there good outcomes with me. I have read all the horror stories and need some positive feedback. Amanda

Daniel is doing well with his G tube. It's been in about three weeks, and already he's gained a pound or two, plus he's starting to try more foods. (He puts them in his mouth, but then spits them out -- and that's a huge step for us.) The G tube site is healing well and Daniel really pays no attention to it.

Good luck! I'll be thinking of you both.

I hope the fundo goes well for you. It will be a long recovery afterwards as it will take some time for Sam to get used to it.

Eli has done well with his, just remember it wont cure it, its just different problems and noone can tell you how long it will last if successful. I hope the G-tube will help you guys out alot! Let us know of any Qs you have post op as we just went through it 5 months ago. I do want to ask why they aren't just placing a G-tube? And, have you met and know how good the surgeon is that will be performing this on Sam? That is very important with this surgery. Find out his success rate.

((((hugs)))) to you both!!!!! If you would like to read Elis story with the fundo read his site, its listed below, that will give you some insite

I wish you luck and hope that the surgery goes well. Remember that each child is different and there are alot of children out there that have done very well with this surgery. I have three that have had fundos and two had complications but my dd did very well and continues to do well 5yrs later. The one thing to remember is that it is a long recovery and there can be problems initially but that is usually from the swelling of the esophagus. If you need to just ask questions if anything should arise after the surgery.

As for the gtube placement that should go very easy and not be difficult. This will help if there are any problems with the fundo. It is a great tool to use when the childs needs to vent and most kids only have the gtube in for a short period until the fundo heals. I do wish you luck and please ask questioins if you have them because somebody here should be able to answer them.

Good luck on Monday, Sam and Amanda! Please keep us updated about how it goes. BTW, how old is Sam now?

To answer all your questions, Sam will be 7 months this week. We decided on the surgery because his reflux is severe and is getting worse, not better. He allready has esphogeal changes noted in the endoscopy biopsies. He is requiring oxygen because his secretions come up and block his airway. He does not tolerate any kind of volume of food even with the ng tube. He starts coughing and chokes on the secretions. He has not been vomiting since the NG tube was placed thank God. I met with the surgeon and I like him, he comes highly recomended from my GI doctor who I love. this is the hardest decision I have had to make, but because he is getting worse, I do not see that we have any choice. Thanks for your support.
