Curran has finally been put on zantac and I think that we are about 3 weeks into it and have noticed big time changes in his pain in his "tummy". I started the whole house (minus Iain) on acidopholus and lactobacillis about 2 weeks ago and we have actually had 3 solid stools out of Curran in the last 2 days!!!!!! WOO HOO!

To briefly sum up, Curran has had diahrea and horrible "chernobyl" diapers forever now. In October of this year it will be 2 years worth of them, so this is a positive thing to have 3 solid stools! We must be doing something finally right.

It sounds like you've stumbled onto something, Leigh. I've been taking acidopholus since the 4 rounds of antibiotics per day (and over multiple days) in the hospital. I'm sure there's something to it! I'm not familiar with lactobacillis, though.

I was so preoccupied with learning everything there is to know about blood in the stomach (go ahead and ask me about helicobacter pylori, peptic ulcers and gut allergies! ) that I did not do a ton of research for the beneficial bacteria. I know that there are quite a few strains, but that you should go for only one or two and no more in combination in a container as they can end up competing with each other and rendering themselves ineffective. Also, there are more strains than you can shake a stick at and you should go for the human strains. Other than that I have to still read up. I did a lot of reading for candiasis and found that many people suffer from it especially after antibiotic use. So, since Curran and Iain have shares in amoxycillin and others I thought it may be a good idea! I will research soon if I can use this one for Iain or if I should get the "babydopholus" that Becky has mentioned.

Good thing that you are on something. After such an operation and a cocktail of antibiotics you sure could use some!

Um, I did not triple post on purpose! Honest! I hit it once and was told that I could not post, so I hit it again and found it three times. Am I posting challenged again?

 I deleted your extra posts, Leigh!

I got the babydopholous at Whole Foods. Our feeding specialist suggested it, and then our new ped did, too. And when I went to Walgreen's in May begging for something to stop D's diarrhea in May, that was all they could come up with. Of course, I was already giving it to Daniel at twice the regular amount! :?

Thanks, Becky! I have a computer stall problem lately, so I will blame that. Can't be ME, right?!

I just realized that I am spelling acidophilus wrong. WHOOPS. Amazing what happens when you actually look at the container....

Babydopholus sounds great. I shall be taking a peek around to see where I might get it this weekend as it is time to stock up on the stuff we are taking now again. We do not have a "Whole Foods" that I am aware of here, but have some independant health food stores and Kardish to shop at. Actually, a major grocery store chain Loblaws has a huge health sectionI figure that we will stay on it for 6 weeks for DH, Walker, and I and keep Curran on for 3 months as his problems are so much more severe and read that a run that long can really help to re-establish good flora for people with problems.

Hmmm, then I'm probably spelling the baby version wrong, too. I just took a stab at it -- I'm too lazy to walk to the fridge. Unless I want a snack.
