Michelle has been on the zantac for a week. We are seeing the doctor tomorrow. She also is now constipated. I don't know if it's from the medicine or formula. Thanks for the encouraging words. It's so hard sometimes. I know we will all get through this. Thanks again.

Hang in there! We all relate to how difficult it is when you have a baby who is in pain and won't sleep. I hope the doc appt goes well. The constipation is difficult because it makes reflux so much worse. Zantac never caused constipation for my son, but I have heard others on this site say that it did. It could also very well be the rice starch in the Enfamil AR. After another week, if the Zantac still isn't helping, would your doc be willing to prescribe Prevacid or Prilosec? Update us after the doc appt... :)

Catherine constipates (no poop at all) within 36 hours on milk or soy-based formulas. You might ask about a hypoallergenic formula if you can't link the constipation to anything else. She went 10 days without pooping after 2 days on Enfamil AR. She's been fine poop-wise for the last four months on Alimentum.

Barb, Enfamil AR made Cady really constipated, but was helping with the spitup. While she was never constipated on the Good Start, but would spit it up like crazy. So, we ended up compromising on a mixture of 75% Enfamil AR and 25% Good Start. We still have a reduced spit up and no constipation. If she did okay on her other formula, maybe you can do a mixture until her little body gets used to the rice starch? It's just a suggestion...what worked for us may not work for you, though. Prior to the mixture of AR and Good Start, we flip-flopped all over the place with formula's. Sometimes it takes a little while to find the right stuff. Good luck with it!

Hi Barb -- How old is Michelle? Can you mix a bit of apple juice into her bottle? We also got an rx for enulose when Daniel was at his worst, but if you go that route, be warned: start with a much lower dose than is prescribed and work your way up if necessary!
