Hi,
I'm new to the website. My baby is almost 5 weeks old. Her name is Michelle. Last week we went to the doctor because she was not sleeping, she was crying and fussy, and spitting up a lot. Before the appointment I went on the internet and did some research. I thought it might be reflux but not sure and the doctor thought it was reflux and gave us zantac. She takes it twice a day. The spitting up continued and so did the sleepless days and nights. Two days ago I switched formulas to Enfamil AR. It seems to be helping. Michelle maybe sleeps 5 hours total. Sometimes she is fussy and crying other times she falls asleep in my arms and isn't fussy at all. As soon as I put her in the amby bed, car seat, or bassinet (I started with the bassinet, then the car seat, and we just got the amby bed) she wakes up. Sometimes she does sleep for 20 minutes. I've tried everything. Swaddling, singing, music, massage, swinging, dancing, and reading to her. Nothing seems to work. Finally at aroung 3 or 4 am she will fall asleep for maybe 2 hours and then is up to feed and goes back down in a hour and sleeps again for 2 hours and then is up for the day. I'm just wondering if anyone has the same problem or have gone through it and what the doctors did. Thanks for your help.

Hugs,
Barb

We have all gone through this problem. It is one of the main problems with our refluxers, discomfort and sleeplessness. I was just wondering how long she has been on zantac? If after 2 weeks she is still uncomfortable you may want to try a PPI like prilosec or prevacid. It sounds like you have tried elevation and know about all that since you now have the ambibed. I do think once you get the reflux under control she will rest better :D Hang in there!

Just a thought ... maybe it's the transition from arms to bed that wakes her up. My daughter Catherine was like that from birth until she was several months old. The act of lowering her into her bed invoked a startle reflex in her, and she'd wake up screaming. I tried to put her to bed when she was drowsy but not asleep and she eventually stopped doing it and would sleep better. At 5 1/2 months, she's just now starting to sleep through the night ... maybe one out of every 3 nights. She takes a 30-45 cat nap in the morning, but not every morning, and that's her only nap of the day.

I was just wondering, do you swaddle Michelle?? If you do, it would be good to swaddle her and then put her in your arms so the transition from arms to cot is easier and she still feels secure. I used to do this with my boys and it worked really well.
