Has anyone ever given their babies acidipholus? ( I think I spelled that wrong) We are seeing a new GI that thinks Alexys is having some gastro issues causing her diarrhea for the past few months. ( 10-12 times a day :? ) He wanted me to give her some of the acidipholus to help with the bacteria in her intestines but I'm not sure what it is or where to get it, or even how much ....he didnt really specify just said mix it with her food. (we are off the feeding tube for a test run) He is thinking that her stools are backing up and the diarrhea is the old run off from whats left in there. Has anyone had any experience with this supplement??

Chako , I think it was one of your sons that had a similar problem? What can be done about it?

I give Daniel baby dopholous whenever he's on antibiotics. Our feeding specialist suggested it, and even though he still gets diarrhea, he doesn't get a diaper rash. I bought it at Whole Foods in the vitamin/medicine area. The aciddopholous is in a refrigerated case. I think the regular dose is 1/4 teaspoon per day, but our feeding specialist recommended that amount at every meal when he's on an antibiotic.

Hope you can find it and that it makes a difference for Alexys!

The stuff that I have is HMF powder (Human Microflora and contains the following:
L.acidophilus (2 strains)
Bifidobacterium bifidum
Bifidobacterium lactis
Fructo-ogliosccharides

You add water to 1/4 teaspoon and mix give two times daily with meals.

It can be found at health food stores, nutrition stores, Kardish, etc. Be very sure to get it fresh. I have not given it to Iain yet as we were told to maintain the status quo with him and not to change anything until after the scope. I am going to be giving it to Curran this weekend as he has had a bad bout with his diahrea again. It really is supposed to help replace the good flora that is killed off or overtaken when your kidlet is sick or put on antibiotics. I was told not to worry about overdosing as good bacteria generally finds their own population levels in time. Check with your health food store for details as the package you may get could be different from mine. One thing though, be sure to get the human variety.
