Noah is hurting bad because he is so dehydrated. I need to rehydrate him. What rate is a good start rate for the pedialyte ? He has a Zepex Pump??

Depends on what his normal rate. What can he tolerate? Shae normally is like 128 mils/hr but if an exceptionally bad day, Roni will do pedialyte only. Drop down to 40/50 mils an hr. Or maybe even drop down more.

Pedialtye is good for dehydration. Maybe he could do formula diluated with pedialyte.

Again, depends on what he tolerate. Say he only tolerates 70 then go down to 20.

I am trying to type what Roni is saying b/c she is wiped (exhausted) and I am on the phone with her.

Maybe the ER would suggest an IV???? Probably should phone them and ask. Don't mess with dehyrdation.... ER could do faster.

Good luck

We've always gone to urgent care for an IV to rehydrate but I hate to think of Noah having another needle in him. Was he G-tube fed before, and can you start at the rate he handled before? In D's class, there's a boy who just turned two that was getting 170 ml/hour via G-tube (unless his reflux is bad). Can you just take a stab in the dark and then adjust based on Noah's reaction?

Big hugs to you both!

Katy, I always rehydrated Justin with pedialyte at half his normal rate. I would see what Noah can tolerate first then build up. I am sorry that he is having so many problems still.

We're trying really hard ot keep him up. His GI says to give it one more day and if we can't get him back up then we will admit him tomorrow night for hydration and have the scope done. I am almost to the point of having the broviac placed back in for the TPN because I hate trying to force feed him all of his feeds and it makes him miserable.

Katy,

I'm sorry to hear that Noah is still having such a tough time. Have you been able to rehydrate him since you posted this or did you need to go to the ER? (((HUGS!!!)))

I ditto Janette's question. What's happening with him now?

I always start really, really slow with Shae and as she tolerates it, every maybe 30 minutes I increase the rate slowly by about 5-10mls/hr. It's a little different for Shae b/c it's a J-tube not a G-tube though.
