Owen has for many months had difficulty passing poos, and now is straining quite a bit, can see blood in the stools due to cuts down there, poor wee thing.

He has just been prescribed Lactulose. I've given him one dose and already two poops close together, mind you, he screamed in pain as he was doing them. Anyone else's baby on Lactulose? I'd be interested in knowing if others find it effective or not, and whether there are any side effects etc.

Thanks :)

Oops sorry! I just realised that Minnie posted a message earlier about Lactulose. It's great, isn't it? Well, we've only tried one dose so far... hopefully may the poop continue!

I have no experience with lactulose, but I am sure that others have. Have you tried some desitin creme on the little behind to help with the tears? Ask the ped if some epsom salts would be allowed in the bath as well to help improve circulation and for relaxation.

Where in Canada were you from?

Lactouce (sp) is great. It worked greated for my little one. For the litle tears maybe your ped can give you some it to heal them if they get to bad. I know that our GI did.

We gave Daniel enulose once in awhile. But our ped did warn us to give him a suppository as well, otherwise things would loosen up on top, but if he was still plugged at the bottom, it'd be quite uncomfortable. The suppository works great and very fast.
