Evan has a few sounds that he can repeat, like "buh buh buh". I'm trying to move him forward onto the next step of using sound patterns, but he just can't get it. Besides repetition and using props, what can I do to get him to say things like "buh buh buh ssss" or "duh ck duh ck"? Any ideas would be so appreciated.

This is probably a dumb question, but have you tried getting him to repeat the buh buh buh sound, then the sssss sssss sssss sound over and over and then get him to slowly combine them? Start with words that have two sounds that you know he can already do. Just work on one word at a time, until he has that one down maybe?

I don't know, trying to think of what Shae's speech therapist had recommended but she really never did...Shae just started doing it on her own.

Janette, I wish I know what to suggest that could help Evan move forward. Have you asked the speech therapist how you can get Evan to move forward? You probably have. Sorry. I typed before I thought that one out. Sorry I can 't help, I will keep thinking of better suggestions that can be of help.

I am here thinking postive thoughts that Evan will repeat new sounds back to you soon. :)

Oh, I am sure he is so close then janette, I dont have any suggestions, I just know that all the sounds had no end for Eli until recently, it was "cu" for cup, "cha" for Chair", "cou" couch, "bite" for bites, and then 2 weeks ago, he started putting all the sounds on the end out of no where?!? We were like where did that come from all of a sudden? Its like it clicked. Evan is on his way!!

Roni, Evan can already do buh buh buh and sss sss sss sounds, a few of each in a row. He doesn't have any two-sound words yet, so that's why I'm trying to go this route. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Thanks Shannon! I left a note for Evan's speech therapist, but am waiting to hear back from her. Hopefully I'll get some good ideas from both angles. :)

Thanks for the encouragement! We certainly have a long ways to go to even get to the cu, cha, etc. stage. Hopefully one day...

I agree with Shannon, Shae had no words when she was 3 and now she's testing above average! I hope that gives you some hope!

I know this is totally off-topic here, Janette, but I just wanted to say that ever since you mentioned having two teenage boys eating you out of house and home, I haven't been able to get that out of my mind. I so look forward to the day that Daniel says, "Mom, we're out of milk again. And can we have pizza for dinner?" Thanks for giving me that little fantasy!

HeHeHe, so true! You guys will be telling them to "shut it up" before too long. :D

I so hope so, Shannon and Erin! That is my dream for Evan. Every night before I go to bed, when I'm covering up the boys, I give them each a little pep talk. Evan's used to be that he "is going to walk tomorrow" and now it's replaced with talk. I keep reminding him in his sleep that he CAN do it, that the words are going to come. Thanks for giving me some more hope, everyone!

Shannon, I'll try to remember to let you know what the speech therapist says. I should know something either tomorrow or Monday.

I'm glad I was able to give you that little "fantasy", Becky! Daniel is so close to taking off with his eating. It too will come!
