Leigh 04-24-2005, 10:49 AM According to my allergist, yep. I can be a side effect of some meds so look and see what the indicators are for your meds. It also can be a food reaction or a gut intolerance to food as well. My Iain has usually good and solid stools, but they almost always have some slime and mucous on them. Part of Iain's problem is all the upper respiratory problems he has, so the diaper shows worse when he is full of phlegm, too. Be sure to report any diapers with blood in them (sometimes you can see blood or the stool is black and tarry), diahrea where there is no form to the stool, watery diahrea, or anything else that catches your attention as abnormal. Look for any signs of dehydration as well. Leigh sarahh 04-24-2005, 04:20 PM I honestly don't know. I think any change in bowel habit should bbe checked by the doctor- just in case. Is he on new meds?? Has he had a change in diet?? How long has he had it for or is this new?? Nathan'sMommy 04-24-2005, 04:39 PM Nathan had mucousy, really stringy poops for the first few months while he breastfed. We found out it was probably an allergy, so after an elimination diet didn't work, we switched to a hypoallergenic formula. Can your doc check his stool for blood (which probably means allergy)? We only saw blood in my son's diaper with our naked eye once, so it could still be there. :) Janette 04-24-2005, 09:01 PM Has Rob also had a runny nose and lots of phlegm that he vomits up lately? Rosietish 05-03-2005, 10:53 AM Emily had mucousy stringy stools on milk-based formula, and gets massive constipation on anything soy, including certain brands of rice cereal. Beech-nut rice cereal is guaranteed no soy, so we only feed/thicken with that. We are pretty certain of the milk protein allergy...whenever she has it, she not only has mucous stools but develops a stuffy nose, another symptom of an allergy. Dark circles under the eyes as well.
