View Full Version : Pain From G-tube ? raisingangels 04-22-2005, 09:25 PM Noah has been complaining since he came home that not the outside of his stomach but, the inside "way inside" hurts really bad. Is it just irriataion ? ElisMom 04-22-2005, 09:30 PM I am sure Roni can help you with that one... wish I knew more. I would think as it heals it would hurt right? and things may be moving back into place after the surgery? It makes sense to me. But, again I have no experience here so will wait to see what Ronis says. (((hugs))) to you and Noah!!! Lots and Lots of them! Janette 04-22-2005, 09:53 PM Oh no, Katy. I hope that everything will turn out to be fine. Hopefully Roni will be on again in the morning. If you're very concerned, I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you e-mailed her. Becky in NM 04-22-2005, 10:32 PM Oh, Katy, I sure hope not. I'm not sure if there are that many g-tube fed kids here, though we may be joining you.... Roni 04-23-2005, 07:22 AM Shae has acted like it was paining her before several times. Most of it happened when she was too young to really express where and what she was feeling, but from her body language and actions, I had figured out it seemed like pain inside the J-tube site. I have also noticed this happens just after it has been changed or bumped, etc. It was particularly bad after the last time they changed it and lasted for about a week or more. I was really scared it was in wrong, or they had done something when they changed it, etc...but eventually it just seemed to get better. A few times since then just out of the blue, she has told me it hurt inside but it never seems to last long enough for me to even worry about it. Have they just changed it or something or has he had since the surgery? raisingangels 04-23-2005, 12:00 PM He's had it since the surgery. Roni 04-23-2005, 01:38 PM But it just started to bother him how? Wish I had a better idea of what to tell you. Is it still bothering him? I would think it if was from being newly put in it would have bothered him before now...??? ElisMom 04-23-2005, 01:40 PM could it be as it starts healing it is bothering him? And, with the fundo part Elis got worse before better as it healed.. maybe it is that with the site too? The swelling may be going down and healing?...? Roni 04-23-2005, 01:52 PM Hmmm, ya good point....are you making sure to turn it, maybe the skin is starting to grow around it?? raisingangels 04-23-2005, 03:48 PM Yeah, I wish I could turn it but for some very odd reason, these surgeons actually put stitches through the disk, there were 3 of them. I cut 2 of them becasue they were pulling in his skin so bad. The 3rd I can't to because it is tied so tight. I couldn't believe that they stitched it. They told me it was to make sure it doesn't get pulled out but, he has a ballon on the inside so it seems a bit redundant to me. He does have some funky discharge coming from the 2x2 greenish. I haven't really freaked about it yet as his bile reflux is really bad so I assume it is just bile not infection. Maybe I am wrong though. Hmmm. ElisMom 04-23-2005, 03:58 PM Hmmm, you may want to put in a call and see if you should be concerned. Of course, you may not get far.... :? Why would they stitch it if it should be able to be turned? I have no idea what I am talking about when it comes to these tube things. raisingangels 04-23-2005, 04:14 PM Girl, I haven't a clue the disc sits flush with the skin and the tube is slid into the hole throughthe disk and then the tube goes inside the stomach and then there is a little ballon inside that inflates to hold it into the stomach. I guess the surgeon is just over kill - like I said I cut to of stitiches because it was tugging his little skin and it hurt on the outside because it was just one stitch here and there so it was irratating too. OUCH :( ElisMom 04-23-2005, 04:25 PM Yes, ouch! Poor little booger! Roni 04-23-2005, 05:44 PM What kind does he have a Mickey? I can't believe they stitched it, I was under the impression you were supposed to be able to turn them so the skin doesn't grow around them, you know, like when you get your ears pierced, they tell you to make sure you turn the earrings. Well, they told me the same thing about Shae's bard. Her bard doesn't sit flush with her skin at all, it's actually probably about a half inch above the skin but that's b/c it's too big, it's supposed to sit flush. Although we have to keep guaze on it since it leaks so bad so the guaze just takes up the space that is left over, make sense? We've seen all kinds of crazy colors (and smells :tongue6: ) come from her stoma. raisingangels 04-23-2005, 06:03 PM http://store1.yimg.com/I/homecareessentials_1840_67811 Okay, this is what Noah's tube looks like. Now, where the disk is that is flush with the skin. All of Noah's other tubes were just like this and we would turn it every day (except when he had the G-J) Now, this tube should also be turned I would assume but the dumb surgeon put 3 stitiches in it running from the disc to his skin. Like I said I cut 2 of the 3 stitches. I am used to the odd things coming out of the site before Noah had his pyloraplasty, because now he "should" drain really fast, so I guess it can still be the bile refluxing because when I vented him this morning we got a lot of bile up in the syringe. Hmmm, He is so red and swollen behind the disk that I can't get a real good look at it. He took his 2x2 off for a while and the top area of where the tube goes in is really the most swollen and has lots of gunky stuff at that area. Oh' well I haven't a clue, I put a call into GI only because he is still running a fever and really complaining about the site in the inside. I will be sure to ask the Surgeon why he stitched it. Roni 04-23-2005, 06:13 PM Do you have a digital camera, you can send me a snap shot if you want. It doesn't sound quite right to me...is that a mickey in the picture? The end with the three ports is, I assume, the extension tube right, that is removable? Check out the tube feeding page on here (link in the left menu), there is a picture of Shae's J-tube, it's a bard and it's hard to see the site itself b/c I have it covered in zinc, but it might help. raisingangels 04-23-2005, 06:33 PM Okay, Noah's tubes before except one other time looked like Shae's. This time it is a long tube all one piece like in the pictureNO extension the whole thingis that long. We are going to change it out to a low profile like Shea's in 4 more weeks. Here is a picture of Noah's right now.http://photobucket.com/albums/y15/raisingangels/th_Closeup.jpghttp://photobucket.com/albums/y15/raisingangels/th_Noahstube.jpg I tried to get close up so you could see where the stitches are. Under the disc there is indeed 3-4 stitches that were put in because they had to make a wider insicion to place the tube. It's all confusing to me because in the past Noah had a low profile button from the start. raisingangels 04-23-2005, 06:36 PM Those are a little dark. Sorry, he's lying down watching "American Tale" and he wouldn't let me turn the light up anymore :) Roni 04-23-2005, 06:44 PM Can you email me the larger versions? Is it still the foley catheter he has? |
