View Full Version : Not enough action on the poop board
Minnie 04-03-2005, 04:51 PM I just noticed this board hasn't changed since the last time I posted, so I thought I would talk poopy!
Eric has been doing great in the poopin area. The GI gave him lactulose. he takes it twice a day. He is a much happier baby now that he can go. He was gassy from it for the first week or so, but now everything has settled into a nice comfortable rutine, no more gas.
If you are contemplating a stool softener for your little person with constipation issues, I highly reccomend it! It's been life changing :) We have more time for fun now, and there's just nothing like not having your baby cry through a pooh, and actually see him smile (like I have a secret surprize for you) insted.

Nope! We needed you around to instigate that poopy talk. Glad to hear that things are going better these days. We've been wondering where you've been. Has everything been okay?

Is Eric on Alimentum? Just wondered since you were wanting to know about Neocate, too, and posted something about Alimentum. Catherine's poos are a thick liquid on Alimentum.
Minnie 04-03-2005, 06:38 PM Eric didn't do so well on the alimentum, especialy the powder. I don't know why, because it really doesn't make any sence at all. But he got barfy and very gassy on it. I supose it could have just been the switch to somthing new that caused this, or it could be that it is milk based (pre digested, but milk casin is in it). I look back and think I should have tried it longer (only 5 days), but he was so unhappy, and that stuff was so expensive. So now he's on Good Start soy, and he seems to do quite well on it.
Becky in NM 04-03-2005, 07:51 PM I'm glad you found something that agreed with Eric and hope the poop keeps coming!
Minnie 04-03-2005, 08:21 PM Janette,
Things have been going really well. This is the longest good streak we've ever had. I think 4 weeks now. WOW! Anyway he's eating good and sleeping well, and he is having lot's of fun, but he's still losing weight. Weird huh? I can't figure it out. He's drinking 24 to 28 oz a day and he has about 4 to 6oz of solids a day. He likes pears and barley, and rice cereal. All the other food I gave him didn't agree with him or he totaly rejected, so I'm taking it slowly. He eats often. Like he can't hold enough in his belly to keep him satisfied (he can only handle 4oz at the most). It's crazy around here with all the eating he's doing. I really thought by now he would be able to hold more per feeding, but no such luck.
I'm not looking forward to his 6 month check up on tuesday at all. He weighs less now than he did 2 months ago, and I looked at a growth chart online, and his weight is now only in the 15th percentile. Not that 15 is all that bad, but he started out in the 85th, and his height has steadily been in the 75th percentile. His growth chart is just this weird looking downward curve. I'm trying so hard not to pay attention to all this, but worry worry worry is what I do. I'm hoping between now and tuesday he'll put on some weight. I just need to be patient I guess, he went through a really rough time, and now that I'm not thickening his bottles.... His tummy just needs to get bigger, all that not eating/ thickening shrunk it up.
Opps! There I go again, you asked a simple question... oh well we all do it right? LOL
zapsmom 04-03-2005, 08:34 PM Glad to see that you are having sucess with the Lacutose. Zoee is /was on that and it does work the best! Hope things go well for you on Eric's 6 month appointment. Please keep us updated about his checkup.

Janette 04-03-2005, 08:39 PM Minnie,
Going through the weight loss is the worst. Evan lost 5 lbs. in a week just a few weeks ago, and it will be ages until he regains it back. It's so frustrating. Since the height is 75th and the weight is now only 15th, you're right to be concerned, especially since the weight has been on such a roller coaster ride. Is he more mobile now or something that he's not gaining weight?
It's funny that you mention not looking forward to the 6-month check-up. (BTW, did you already add it to the calendar?) I've been majorly avoiding booking Evan's 3-year check-up. I keep hoping that he'll regain the 5 lbs. he lost, so that I can have that as his weight in his baby book. :?
Glad that things are going so much better Minnie! The weight is a little concerning, but he's not failure to thrive for sure and as long as you are watching it closely I'm sure it will turn around.
