View Full Version : Sigh... one day without a poop...

and everything just falls apart.

Daniel had a pretty big barf at lunch and had a great time at his friend's birthday party til he suddenly became inconsolable. We took him out in the backyard to visit the dog and try to calm him down, but he vomited all over and really started to scream. (And it was three hours after I'd last fed him!)

To make matters worse, a well-meaning party guest kept giving us suggestions for making Daniel happy, and of course she started with saying he must be hungry or thirsty.

Usually he's a three-times-a-day guy, so we gave him a suppository when we got home and "forced the issue." I feel bad about doing it so soon rather than letting nature take its course, but I also don't see the point in letting the vomiting continue if pooping seems to be the problem.

Just one of those days....

Poor Daniel!!! As for the well-meaning party guest- *sigh*. There is always one......
How long would you normally let him go without pooping naturally??? How does he cope having a suppository??

The guest eventually told me "there's something wrong with him," and asked if I was going to have more children!!!!!!!!!! So, maybe not so well meaning....

Normally I would try to give Daniel apples and plums to get things going naturally, but I was already concerned that we'd put a lot into today with no output. Plus I just felt so discouraged that Daniel didn't even get to have fun with his friends at the party. We hadn't used a suppository for awhile and it was much tougher to get it in now since he's so mobile. But once that's done, it's no problem. Having his poop, finally, doesn't bother him.

Sorry to hear that the party was spoiled for Daniel.

I am always so amazed by the remarks people (often total strangers) make...as if they have the right to pass comment. How RUDE to suggest you shouldn't have more children.....
I know when I'm out shopping I'm stopped all the time and asked about the twins. The 1st thing people ask is if I've had IVF or fertiltiy treatment- why do they have to know that?? What a personal and intimate question to ask of someone that you don't even know. I lie now and say "no" I just can't be bothered with the conversation that will follow.....
((((HUGS)))) Becky and Daniel. Sorry he didn't get to enjoy the party- bummer :(

Sarah,

Have you thought of giving them a nice, pat answer that would let them know in a nice, but firm way that it's none of their business? I know of a mom of a handicapped, non-walker who was holding her child in a line at the grocery store. The lady behind her commented about needing to put her child down or the child would never learn to walk. The mom answered that her child is handicapped and will NEVER be able to walk. That shut the lady up!

Ya know, John was mad, but I didn't get that bothered. She was just old and thoughtless.

After D's lip surgery, he was crying and a nurse came in and said we should give him a bottle. Never mind that he never wanted them; he wasn't even allowed to have them for a week!

 ((HUGS)) How rude!

I am constantly amazed at how rude and thoughtless people can be, we've gotten some pretty unbelievable comments over the years as well. But my favorite has to be woman that scoffed in disgust in the mall at treating the baby like a dog, keeping her on a leash. Well she won't make that mistake again, Mom was with me that day and chased her down the mall and into the next store to "correct" her...

That's actually what most people think her tube is, a leash. Sometimes I ignore the comments, other times I rudely reply it's a feeding tube in disgust of my own that I hope is apparent to these jerks.

First Horray for Jean!

Becky, I am sorry that Daniel didn't have fun at he party. :(

It doesn't amaze me any more. I have com e to realize that people think that they can just say what they want. It is just wrong!

People who only had healthy kids just don't understand what it's like to try to cope with a little one who's in pain or, for whatever reason, can't do the things he's expected to do by a certain age.

And reflux is so tricky because the pain can come on so suddenly and to everyone else it just looks like your kid is a crab. And even as the parent it's tough. You don't know if it's the reflux, teething, shyness/mama preference, or what. I was kind of glad that Daniel eventually threw up.

He lost a lot of breakfast this morning, too. I guess we're in the down cycle.

At lunch he threw up right when we got started. It was mostly gastric juices tinged with the end of breakfast. I called the doctor.

Oh Becky...That's so hard! Do you think Daniel's coming down with a cold or something that's setting it off? Are you able to see the doctor today?

Becky in NM

We didn't go to the doctor's today. I was hoping he'd just call me back because I really need to know if he thinks we need to go back to the GI's. Besides, it's snowing like mad here today! Two inches already. Daniel is just looking out the window.

I'm always afraid to try new things with Daniel. Sometimes when he's doing great, I just want to stick with the regular routine so I don't mess him up. And when he's doing poorly, we're already spending so much time on feeding (and refeeding) that I don't want to do anything new. But today I took the plunge anyway. Daniel ate about five very tiny pieces of goldfish crackers! YAY! :nike:

Snow and goldfish crackers on the same day in NM? Woohoo! How did Daniel like both of those new things?

Becky in NM
03-14-2005, 05:46 PM
Actually, this wasn't his first time for either of those things! It snowed in November, and we were trying goldfish crackers in early January. He didn't want to open his mouth at first, so I had to let him put a few in my mouth; then he was willing. (And I hate goldfish crackers -- the sacrifices we make for our kids!)

You don't have goldfish crackers? They're little cheddar-flavor, goldfish-shaped crackers from Pepperidge Farm. Tonight I actually shoveled snow -- haven't done that since the 90s!

There are plain goldfish crackers, too, but the cheese ones are definitely the best.

Hey Becky! Want to come shovel some of our snow, too?

I hope Daniel is having a better go of it by now. Goldfish crackers could fix just about anything when I was a kid. They were always a special treat my mom bought for those long, long car rides to my grandmother's house!

Daniel is such a cutie! I hope he's feeling better.

There are the pizza goldfish now as well. They are pretty yummmy! They are a favorite around here.

Can someone come and shovel my snow, please?

We're doing a little better today. Daniel had some more tiny cracker pieces then ate breakfast slowly but without incident. He woke up about 45 minutes early and then took a nap at 9 rather than waiting til 11:30, so maybe he's just not feeling too well. It's a nice break for me!

 Pizza flavoured...That's it! I knew there was one more! As for the snow, Shannon, no thanks! I've shovelled tonnes this winter again already, but I'd more than happy to send you some more....

I'm glad to hear Daniel's feeling a bit better today, Becky! It definitely sounds like he's fighting something. Enjoy the break while he naps!

We don't have goldfish crackers here but of course many items that are similiar!!! I like the chicken drumsticks myself.
Glad to hear Daniel is a little better.
Janette... I used to have succinct answers for people about the twins but now I just feel it is no-ones right to ask such a personal question (about whetehr we did IVF to have them). When one lady asked I said yes. Then I asked her if she children- when she said yes, I asked if she had sex to get them!!!! She went a lovely shade of red!!!! Mind you, haven't been game to say that kind of thing again- I was just frustrated that day!!!
SNOW!!!!! Oh, I am so jealous!!!!!
I can't work out for to quote people yet- so sorry for the disjointed post!!!!

Sarah,

Are the chicken drumsticks you mentioned crackers?

Hehehe...It serves that nosy lady right to be asked the same type of question. It's absolutely no one business!

Thanks Janette... have managed to do a quote successfully now!!!
Yes, the chicken drumsticks are crackers- chicken flavoured obviously and in the shape of drumsticks! YUM!!!
Yes, I guess I was rather bold being rude to that lady but it gets so tiresome being asked all the time!

 Oh my gosh! I can see that one happening! I've had people call from the police association asking for donations to help special needs children go to the circus. I'd like to see them fund MY special needs child!!! With me being a SAHM with no extra income, it's tough to do many of those extras!
