I haven't been on since I first posted, I can't seem to find the time with the two kids and Luke has been doing just fair. After 5 months of him running a temp of 99 - 100 and the doctors not being able to explain why (after blood test after blood test) They chalked it up to teething. He only has two teeth and he's 9 months old! I got fed up! I went to this holistic doctor (Dr. Page) he has a bio-merridian machine that works on frequencys. (He cured my daughter of constant bronch. and pneu. when she was 15 months old) Why I haven't taken Luke there before this is beyond me. Anyway, he found that he had 0 digestive enzymes, his small intestine is not working so he is not able to absorb any nutrients, hence no weight gain and he said basically his stomach is septic and has been releasing garbage into his system and that is why he has been running a temperature. He tested his formula that I was giving him and also two others that I had taken and found that he was not able to digest this at all (keep in mind this test is totally non-invasive) We thought he was lactose intolerant but he is not. Dr. Page explained that if you do not have the correct digestive enzymes you are not able to break down any food and it goes straight through you. Soo... He gave me this product called Reliv Now for kids and had me put him on it and off the lactose - free formula because it wasn't working anyway. I was and am still leary about all of this but I have to say. Since I have done this he has only thrown up once. His hair is silky (it was like straw and we couldn't figure out why) We have gone a week with no prevacid and he is now sleeping through the night with only one night time feeding. He is not running a temperature as of the last 2 days. It has been 98.6 on the dot. Morning noon and night. I am hoping this is my miracle that I have been praying for. Dr. Page explained that Prevacid works to stop the acid in the stomach but it also kills the digestive enzymes. I have put him on a probiotic from the health food store and give him one capsule a day (I started this on Monday) So far he has been eating a little better every day. He had a much better day today not crying and not wanting to be held constantly. Dr. Page said every day we should see an improvement and we have. He also said that it is going to take 6-8 weeks for him to recover and get everything working properly. I also ordered and gave to him today an Organic baby formula that he seems to be doing OK so far. We'll see how he does tomorrow! I wanted to use both the Reliv and another formula because the fat content is not as high in the Reliv even though Dr. Page said he would get enough. I tried giving him a bottle of the Lactose-free He would not drink it. So I threw it in the garbage. Any way, Thanks for taking the time to read this. I wanted to know if anyone else has sought alternative methods and your experience. I am praying that this works and so far I have had good results. NO FEVER.

Good luck with the alternative medicine. Please let us know how it goes. Just one question...Is a holistic doctor the same as a naturopath, and if not, what is the difference?

We also went that route, we did the enzymes, probiotics and aloe vera juice, months and months of treatments. At first she seemed to gain a little more weight and do a little better but it had to be a coincidence b/c she went downhill again shortly thereafter.

I am very torn on this b/c I have done a great deal of reading on the benefits of probiotics, as well as the damage that PPI's (not just prevacid) do to the healthy bacteria in the stomach. I have also heard of Reliv although never tried that one. I convinced myself in the beginning of all this that we were going about it wrong and I could fix Shae if I just tried to normalize all the digestive stuff going on inside her.

It's hard b/c it seems to work wonders for some kids but not for others. It really needs to be studied more I think.

This is an area of information that I want to add to the main site, although I don't necessarily believe in it fully, in the near future...so watch for it.
