Hello everyone!

I am new to this board but not new to reflux. My son is now 7 1/2 months old and has been diagnosed with silent reflux when he was just 1 1/2 months old. We have been trying different meds but can't seem to find anything that will work.

We just had a appointement with our ped this morning and we are supposed to start new meds next week. I was just wondering if any of you have used Cisapride. I live in Canada and my ped told me that it was taken off the moarket here because they had a few incidence where it created arythmias in babies but she has used it many times and have seen great improvements with her patients and no side effects. We got an ECG done this am to rules out any arythmias before we start off. If the ECG doesn't come clear, we will not be starting the Cisapride. If it is ok, we will start the Cisapride next week and then have another ECG 3 days after starting the med to make sure DS doesn't develop any arythmias.

I was really appreciate any info or imput anyone can give me!

Hi and welcome!

Shae was on Cisapride (propulsid) back just when they were starting to pull it from the market...it was supposed to be one of the best working drugs for motility...it helped Shae for about a week, quite well actually, but after a few days she was back to her usual self. I actually had heard it was associated with heart issues mostly in older people, never heard of many problems with infants...although that doesn't mean anything I guess *grin*. Here's some more info: http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/ANSWERS/ANS00999.html

Usually, if a doctor decides to prescribe it now, they will do a baseline EKG before beginning the trial use and then after a short time of the child being on the drug they do another one and monitor the child closely while on the drug.

Hey neighbor, I'm in NS!

Propulsid (Cisapride) is a prokinetic (motility agent) like Reglan (but w/o the side effects), and Motilium but it's supposed to work better.

How long before you get the EKG results back? How's he doing now? What part of NB are you from? I'm in Cape Breton.
