View Full Version : We Are Home
ElisMom 02-13-2005, 03:40 PM Thanks you guys for the support and prayers. We are home and exhausted. The fundo went well so the say and they ended up not having to do the pyloroplasty because they also found that when he was developing his pylorus sphynctor (sp) muscle never seperated from his stomach and they believe that is what was causing the emptying problem so they corrected that and are hoping it worked. If not, he will need to have surgery again so hopefully it will. Because we didnt have to have the pyloroplasty we got to come home sooner, wew-hew! He is doing well, and has been walking around today. We just home from the 4 hour drive. I will check in later. Thanks Again everyone!
zapsmom 02-13-2005, 04:11 PM Hi Erin,
Glad to hear that the surgey went well and that Eli is doing well. Hope you can get some rest soon.
Shannon
Oh, I'm soooo happy to hear from you! I've been thinking of you all weekend! Glad to hear things went well! What a little trooper! Give him a big hug for us, get some much needed rest and then fill us in more when you have time!
(((HUGS)))
Becky in NM 02-13-2005, 06:21 PM I'm sure Eli won't be quite himself for a little while, but it's got to be so much nicer to be home -- and a sign that he's doing great!
Janette 02-13-2005, 08:44 PM I'm so glad that Eli's surgery went well, Erin, and that you're home already! I hope you're able to get some well needed and well deserved sleep tonight and look forward to hearing all about it when you have time!
ElisMom 02-13-2005, 08:51 PM Thanks everyone, he is laying on the couch watching movies. I am glad we didn't have to stay as long and are home now. He is doing great pain wise (I think). He is just taking over the counter Advil and is able to move around and sit and walk and even has attempted, painfully, climbing a few times. Huge difference from yesterday, I cant believe it. Thanks for the encouragement everyone!
Hopesfriend 02-16-2005, 11:32 PM Wow, I was expecting to get on line today and see that you just got home. I would have logged on a lot sooner. I am so gald that things are going so well. when you get a minute, would you mind giving me some details. We have an apt March 8 for our sencond opinion.
Unless this doc tells us something we haven't already heard our next stop is going to be the surgery room too. She was doing so well, She even gained 1/2 lb. Three days ago she started to go down hill again. And today she started crying when we ask her to come to the table.
I am so greatful that he is getting around so soon. Isn't laprascopic (sp?) wonderful.
God Bless
Sue
ElisMom 02-17-2005, 08:48 PM Hi Sue,
Yes, he is doing wonderful. We just got home from a 3 hour drive for our follow up and they said that since he is doing so well he can return to his normal diet in about 10 days. Let me know of any Qs you may have. I will say that the actual surgery part was a lot harder than I anticipated. And, I tried to imagine the worst possible. It was complete torcher (and I am talking about my husband and I). But, His recovery has been quick and he is feeling well. No meds, and he is running around looking better than ever.
I will be praying for your family as you try to figure out what will be best for her. And, let me know of anything I can help with. Your in my prayers...
Hopesfriend 02-17-2005, 09:18 PM Erin thank you so much. I think my biggest question is in the furture. I wonder how he will do w/o meds. How well is he eating the stuff he's allowed to eat? I will be curious about how much is learned and how much was him not feeling well and his stomach always feeling full from the gastric emptying.
Thank you so much for your prayers. You are in mine too.
Sue
ElisMom 02-17-2005, 11:35 PM Hi Sue,
Eli has been off meds for a week now and has been doing great.
We are very impressed so far with the results. He has always been a heavy eater. I know Savannah has not. He is already eating French toast, oatmeal, cooked veggies, mac n cheese, french fries. We have a special Nissen Diet that he is on that has a lot of choices on it and since he is doing well his surgeon said we can try going back to his regular diet in 7 to 10 days.
The things I have noticed with Eli that are amazing to us is that right away he looks better, he is not vomiting, around his eyes arent red and terrible looking from the reflux, when he crys he doesnt cough (he has never ever done that), and his night time cough is gone, he isn't swallowing uncomfortably and a lot like the way he used to, he has more energy (alot), and this is all within a week after the surgery. I am sure this is not typical, although his DRs, surgeons, and nurse assure us it is. I know it has just been a week and I will let you know as things change but so far so good for Eli and we are very relieved.
I really attribute his eating success post fundo to his surgery team. They were highly recommended. Our GI specialist sent us to him because he has very high success rates, even though our GI guy has a team at his childrens hospital who does it. I was so worried the wrap would be too tight! Sorry, to go on. I am just so relieved, I was so fearful because of all the negativity regarding this surgery. We're convinced it has to do with all the prayers! How old is Savannah again? Is she vomiting? Do you think she may have eating issues more so? I know she is older than Eli, but not sure exactly... Take Care! Keep your chin up! Stay hopeful!
