Hoping Mag is just having a bad flare. The worst flare ever...

How long do I wait before I decide it's not a flare and call her GI?

Keep in mind there are zero med changes to be done.

I'd go with your gut feeling. I hope that she's fine. I remember some of your posts previously...she had some nasty flares.

I know they've all been bad, Lena...if this is the worst, I'd at least call and see if they have any short-term options. :( Poor Mag.

My 'no pain child' is curling up screaming because she hurts so bad. Two tums later she's okay for a couple hours. It's only been about 4 days but on top of the episodes she's complaining every morning her belly hurts too. And a couple times she's complained about the puke in her mouth.
*Sigh*

Poor Maggie, that sounds terrible. I really hope it is a flare too. Is she sick or getting sick? Around sick people, had injections or changed foods lately? I really, really hope that it is something that just goes away.

If it continues like this, I would probably go to the GI anyway, just to be sure. Maybe she needs an endoscopy to check on things?

How much prevacid is she on? Still 45? Can you add in zantac?

She was sick a few weeks ago. I was sick last week.

She's still on 45. Today we went up to 60 just to see.
GI won't go for zantac because he thinks it's overkill. That she won't have enough acid to digest properly, making reflux worse.

I'm sorry she's having a hard time, Lena :sad5:  When/if you should take Maggie to see the GI is a tough call...just use your mommy instinct on this one.

That is just awful. I am grasping here, and smack me if you need to, but have you guys tried something other than prevacid, like nexium? Allie's GI told me that if she developed an ulcer, he'd put her on nexium. What about carafate or something like that?

Sorry, I hope things get better and fast.

Go ahead and slap me too, but I had the same idea as Christyn.

Whatever is going on I hope it's short lived, poor Maggie:sad5:

And adding an H2 during times like these seems fine to me. I mean it doesn't have to be forever, just till things get under control. Maggie can't handle reglan right?

Her last scope was O.K.? I mean other than that weirdness in her stomach? But her esophagus looks O.K., right?

Well apparently she is sick! Explaining the flare.

Okay... Mag was sick three times earlier this month in less than three weeks. I took her in for round two and three. Both times they said it was just another virus.

Fast forward to this afternoon.
Mag comes to me after lunch and says her neck hurts. Her lymph nodes in the back/side of her neck were HUGE. 6 or 7 of them visible through the skin and bruising. They were not there this morning.

I called and made an appt for tomorrow. In the mean time I was really worried, calling my dad (my personal health care line), checking her armpits etc. Nothing else. She says she feels fine. Through out the afternoon they got bigger and bigger. I'm talking gulf balls or bigger on her neck. I took her to urgent care as soon as dh got home.

She has had strep the ENTIRE TIME. Her tonsils are so swollen they were shocked she isn't having trouble breathing. Amazed that she's not having more symptoms. It's severe. She's on antibiotics for the next 20 days. Re-check of her lymph nodes in 6 weeks.

So now I know why the sudden reflux flare. Oh and the doc we saw called her a 'GI disaster' LOL She was 35 lbs. with coat, shoes, etc on. And 46 inches tall. Major dip on the growth chart. I think he was ready to call children's services on me before I explained her GI issues for her lack of weight.

I'm relieved that there is a reason for the flare but ticked that no one caught the fact that she's had strep for a month now.

This was right after she complained her neck hurt. They swelled from her skull down to her collar bone. By the time I took her in they had doubled and tripled in size.

Aww Lena that just sucks they didn't pick up on it sooner, I have to say I am releived that she is sick (how bad am I) but it can explain the flare.

I too agree that zantac with prevacid for a flare will be fine, we used it together when Parker was about 2 for a year and his reflux was really well managed then. I think probably better than just increasing the prevacid when she is unwell.

I REALLY hope the meds kick in soon and she is feeling better and refluxing less. Those nodes look so sore.

:sad5: How terrible! I can't believe she had strep that long. I also can't believe that she didn't complain that she felt like she was swallowing razor blades! I hope the antiB's kick in really quickly.

OMG! That poor sick baby girl! :sad5:
I hope she's feeling better soon, and the antibiotics kick some butt fast.
But yes, I'm relieved that she is sick. I'm sure a big weight got lifted when you figured it all out.

Ya know Lena,
She's strong. She's just like the rest of these critters here and she has to be SICK before she shows it. Where as a GERD free kiddo would have complained and made it clear loooong ago KWIM?

OMG. The poor girl. That looks awful. Well, I'm glad that there is a reason for this (not glad she has strep, but you KWIM).

I hope she gets better very soon.
