Emma's Nebulizer did not come with a mask, she has a mouth piece that she is just supposed to hold by her face or chew on (that is what I was told when I picked it up).

She does ok with it, but when she has it in her mouth she drools and the spit goes in with the medicine. Usually we end up with more liquid in there after a 10 min treatment then she started out with.

Breathing in vaporized spit does not seem very healthy to me.

She does not have another apt with the allergist until the end of April, do you think this is something I should call them about, or just bring up at the next apt?

She has been doing really well and has not needed the Neb for months, but she has a really bad cough right now that is not going away. I have been doing breathing treatments twice a day since Saturday, but she is not getting any better. I am sure it would help if she was actually getting the meds and not a bunch of spit.

Do you have any thoughts about the whole thing?

Katey, she should really have mask. It's just much more effective for someone Emma's age. I think it's ludicrous that the neb didn't come with one. As for the nebulized spit, since it's her own germs, it's probably not detrimental, but it's definitely nasty. Maybe for now, you could stick the mouthpiece into the bottom of a styrofoam cup and use it as a mask. I hope this cough is a short-lived problem.
