I want to purchase a sleeping aid for my five month old son, but can't decide which one. Should I go with the comfy lift bed, RESQ wedge, or the Tucker wedge. I have recreated my own version of the comfy lift bed with a propped up crib mattress and rolled up towels and blankets. The first night my son slept 7 straight hours, but the next night it was back to waking every four to eat (3 weeks ago). I'm a new member so I can't access the "Yay or Nay" thread. I would appreciate any feedback.

I sort of made my own version of the Comfy Lift. I god two Wedges from a medical supply store and have them end to end in my sons bed so that they make a wide V shape. I then cover them with a blanket tucked under them. My son also has a pillow in his bed so that it keeps him at about a 45 degree angle. This works best for him. The good thing about the Comfy Lift bed is that I think it can be used up to age 5!

Thanks. I may try that. Neither my pediatrician nor GI will write a script for the comfy lift bed (they feel it is a SIDS issue) and I cannot afford to buy one on my own. However, GI did write a script for the RESQ wedge. I'm debating on whether or not to go ahead with the purchase.

Hi Amber:

Go to www.resqwedge.com (http://www.resqwedge.com) and copy the durable medical equipment codes and the letter of medical necessity. Since your pedi was okay with writing a script for the RES-Q Wedge, he/she should not mind the letter. Both the letter and the codes should help get reimbursement for the RES-Q Wedge. Read the website. I give you information about how to go about getting reimbursed. In addition, you get to talk to me via email for consultation free of charge...not too shabby! I am am pediatric OT and co-inventor of the RES-Q Wedge. I am also the feeding therapist (OT) here on the message boards.

I hope you and your little one are sleeping soon.:smt041

Thanks Robynne. Two questions for you. One, does the wedge fit in a standard crib? I don't want to put him in the floor. Two, in your experience, have you found babies adjust to sleeping on it easily? That's my biggest concern.

Hi Amber:

Yes, the wedgie does fit in a standard size crib. To answer your other question, every baby is different and I do not have a crystal ball. I will not lie to parents to sell more wedges...I tell it like it is. Lots of babies are relieved the second they are placed on the wedge, if positioned correctly. Some parents need to play around with positioning just a little, then they have a happy baby. Every once in a blue moon I get a baby who does not like the wedge. When I contact the parent to find out why, they never bothered to use the FREE OT consult that is offered with the purchase of the wedge/sling. We do this for a reason! The RES-Q Wedge is durable medical equipment. It is also the creme de la creme designed by a physician, OT, and dietitian. We want to know that our babies and parents are sleeping! I know none of the other wedge companies offer free therapeutic advice. We do provide explicit instructions as well. I am not going to try to talk you into buying the wedge. It is your decision. Read the testimonials and decide for yourself. See if your insurance company will reimburse you. That way you will be happy regardless of the outcome.

Sincerely,

Robynne
