So my ds started crying through bottles about 2 weeks ago. The pedi put him on 7.5mg prevacid. He's been on the med for a week and there is no change, so I called the pedi and she said to increase the dosage to 15mg.
My questions is...when I hold him and walk with him while feeding him his bottle he doesnt cry (sometimes when he gets to the last oz or so he might). Is this something that soothes his reflux or is it just him wanting to do this and he crys when we dont?

It's not a bad habit at all, it's his reflux. A lot of our kiddos (mine included) need MAJOR distraction to eat/drink. I used to do all sorts of crazy things to distract my son enough to get him take bottles. Finally with the combo of Elecare and 30mg of prevacid things got better. He still needs the tv on for bottles though (he's 100% elecare fed at this point still - nearly 18mos)...

I agree with Tru, many moms have had to use distraction to get their little ones to eat. You do what you have to do! Hopefully the Prevacid increase will help. Are you splitting the Prevacid dose twice a day or just giving it once? Some kiddos do better with 1/2 in the am and 1/2 in the pm.

I bet distraction too. Kind of like sleep feeding - but walk feeding.

i stand up sometimes w/ my dd to get her to take the bottle. i really think it is the gravity of being held more upright when standing (keeps the reflux down) and reflux is easier to come up when all hunched over in cradle position. When your child has reflux, and oral aversion tendencies, you have to get creative, KWIM? I wouldnt worry about it though, if it works dont knock it:smt036

Thanks ladies! He is getting close to 15lbs so hopefully I can find another way of distraction so my arm doesnt fall off!
