Hello everyone,I'm new to the board but not reflux- my 3 year old is a former slient refluxer.

ANyway- My 3 months has never really been an easy feeder but he would take 4-5 ozs every 4 hours. He's been on Isomil since 6 weeks( end of Nov.) and doing ok with it. I suspected something wasn't right because he was not easy to feed but instead of meds the dr. said thicken his formula with rice cereal which we did. That was working great and last week he started taking 6 ozs at some feeds but than Saturday the floor fell out from under us because he stopped eating and my happy cheery baby became miserable. Now he has been on rice for about 2 weeks and pervacid solutabs 7.5mgs 3x's a day for about a week. He only eats 1-2ozs at atime now and thats a struggle. He screams, pushes away, chokes and turns red. I took him to the dr. on Monday and she said his breathing was tacky and his lungs sounded wet. This is the second time thathas happened so she put him on steriods for 3 days, antibiotics for 5 days along with breathing treatments. Thrusday we have a upper GI scheduled and I'm justwaiting for my referral to the Peds GI to go threw which should be Friday. But, our dr. said if he doesn't start eating I will have to take him to the ER were they will admitt. I don't want this and I'm trying to hold out til we can see the peds GI but that may be 2 weeks :(. I know he's in so much pain and part of me wants to take him to the ER because I am affraid there is something more going on but atthe same time I can't bare the thought of him in the hospital. WHy would the reflux get so bad so quickly? COuld something more be going on? My stomach is in knots thinking it could be something worse than just reflux and maybe I should just take him in but the upper GI would show that on Thrusday, right? It's now 2:20pm and he has only eaten 8.5 ozs since 7am this morning. I don't know what to do. Someone please chime in here cuz I'm at a loss and freaking out.
Thank you,
Cristina

 I am so sorry that you and your LO are going through this. I wish there was an easy answer but there just isn't unfortunately. I see that he has been on prevacid now for about a week. When my son started prevacid it took a good two weeks for me to notice a difference. Has your son ever had a swallow study done? The breathing difficulties that you are describing sound like what my son has gone through. He used to aspirate his bottles and reflux. If you notice his breathing getting worse I would certainly get him in. Does your son still seem well hydrated? Is he having plenty of wet diapers?

No yesterday he had 4 wet diaper in 24 hours and today they were barely wet. I want to bring him to the ER but I don't. It's kinda hard to describe.

If he is getting dehydrated, I would stay on the safe side and take him in especially at his age. I know that antibiotics always made Ethan's reflux worse too. I know that you don't want to take him in but it might be best...

I would be taking him in. He is just to young. You will feel better to take him in and be sent home then to be worried sick every second not knowing.

I know EXACTLY what you mean about not wanting to take him in, but honey, if he is not having enough wet diapers, then you must taken him in. Dehydration can be very serious.

Good luck and let us know how it works out.

I would deff take him in. If you noticed a significant drop in his wet diapers than he is surely getting dehydrated. I know it sucks, but its only for the better. Let us know how things work out

How about an update...how are things going tonight?

Believe me so many of us here understand the struggle to get our little ones to eat, you are definitely not alone in this. I hope the meds kick in soon.

Hey welcome to IRD

How have his BM been since being on the thickened feed often that can mae it harder to digest and move though the GI track slower and there for sit in the tumy more and cause reflux, also rice has a tendancy to cause gass to wich is also very sore andagain wil agrivate reflux

Please update as soon as you can after his upper GI, I hope it gives you the answers you need
