Emma was put on Pulmicort and the scrip said Jet Nebulizer, but the med supply said the only had regular nebulizers and that it would be fine. I was just reading about Pulmicort online and it said for use with Jet Nebulizer only. Is there a difference between the machines? Is it ok to use one instead of the other?

Katey, a jet is technically the part of the nebulizer kit that makes the mist. It is usually a tiny little hole at the end of a short capillary tube in the cup. All nebulizers have one. It shouldn't matter which compressor and nebulizer kit you use. Brenna has a Pari. We use cheapo disposables at work. The literature specifies a certain one because that was the one used in the clinical trials. It doesn't necessarily make one better than another. My only suggestion regarding the Pulmicort is to make sure you clean the nebulizer cup and parts very well after using Pulmicort - it's pretty sticky and can clog the jet (the part that makes the mist). Also, be sure to wash her face and give her a drink of water afterward. Pulmicort is a steroid and can cause thrush if not rinsed away.

Also, I caught your other thread about this. While you got great advice, I'm going to have to contradict one thing. Try NOT to let Emma cry during the neb. Yes, she will be taking deeper breaths, but the air is moving in and out so fast while crying that the medicine does not have time to deposit in the airways where it belongs. It basically goes in and then right back out. Does that make sense? Try to keep her calm if at all possible - that's how you get the most benefit from the neb.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this on top of everything else. Hopefully it's short lived.
