View Full Version : To RESQ-Wedge or Not to RESQ-Wedge...
Malena 11-08-2008, 11:22 AM Hello everyone,
Has anybody tried the RESQ Wedge? My husband and I bought the AR pillow and our baby, Armando (2monthsold) was not happy at all in it. He has been sleeping on our chests for 4 weeks due to GERD. My husband and I are beyond exhausted and would greatly appreciate a reply if you have used the RESQ Wedge with your baby - with positive or not very positive results. Our finances are suffering, therefore we really value your input before we jump into yet another expense.
Miori 11-08-2008, 06:13 PM I have not tried any of the wedge products. But, we have the Amby Bed and it's awesome! We didn't have it with my son so it was my splurge this go around. For my son, we just elevated his crib on one end. Then, under the sheets you can create a nest to keep them from sliding down. We used two rolled up receiving blankets on the sides and a firm throw pillow at the bottom.
pedi-ot 11-09-2008, 08:31 AM Hi Malena:
I am one of the co-inventors of the RES-Q Wedge. I am also the OT on the "Ask the Experts" panel in this website. Of course I am biased about our product, but I can answer any questions you may have about it. It is the only reflux wedge currently involved in research in the NICU at Arkansas Children's. Invented by an OT, physician, and dietitian, we were approached by ACH because of our unique design. The RES-Q Wedge is the only infant reflux wedge on the market that is reversible and orthopedically designed. In addition, you get free consultation online from our OT staff when you purchase the wedge/sling. We want to know that our babies AND parents are sleeping!
I know you purchased the AR Pillow. You may have already sought reimbursement from your insurance company. If you have not, many insurance companies will reimburse for the RES-Q Wedge if you have a prescription from your physician, a letter of medical necessity (posted on the www.pollywogbaby.com (http://www.pollywogbaby.com) website), and DME codes also listed at the website. Your baby most likely did not do well on the AR wedge because he/she was flexed at the hip, which decreases gastric emptying and is uncomfortable for our GERD babies. You may call Annette Cottrell, owner of the website (pollywogbaby) and she will discuss with you benefits of all the wedges she carries.
Please write back with any questions. I am a feeding specialist if you have any questions about your little one :)
Sincerely,
Robynne Elkin
Malena 11-13-2008, 09:14 AM Thanks Miori and Robynne for your response to my posting.
We met with the Ped GI yesterday and he wrote a prescription for the RESQ-wedge. I TRULY hope it works since we are all in desperate need of sleep to properly function in order to make smart, educated choices in terms of treatment and products.
My husband and I would still certainly appreciate to hear from parents who have tried this product with their infants - besides getting feedback and support from Robynne. :)
Have a gorgeous day everyone!!!:)
Malena 11-21-2008, 06:23 PM Hi everyone,
Just want to share a moment of bliss with all of you! Our son Armando graduated to the RESQ wedge pillow. Last night was the second night he slept for 7 hours on it!!! --- My husband and I had been sleeping with him on our chest, on the glider, 24/7 for almost two months...Our son can finally sleep by himself, in his crib, on this GREAT invention!:party21:
pedi-ot 11-22-2008, 09:13 AM Hi Malena:
I am so glad to hear Armando, you, and your husband are sleeping! Please feel free to contact me at resqwedge@gmail.com with any questions concerning positioning Armando. If you are bored (that's a joke) and want to tell the nation about how wonderful the RES-Q Wedge is, please go to www.inventorspot.com (http://www.inventorspot.com). If you go to the Invention Gallery, the RES-Q Wedge is the first invention, and you can leave comments after the picture :)
Sincerely,
Robynne Elkin
Malena 11-24-2008, 12:49 PM Hi Robynne,
I have replied to your PM with a big YES!
Thanks again,

amber.d.m 02-24-2009, 01:29 PM Reading all these threads were very informative. I have asked my GI for a prescription for the RESQ wedge. I have been looking at many different sleep products for a few months now and I believe this one will benefit my son the most.
Malena 03-10-2009, 10:27 AM Hi all,
My son, Armando, is 6 months now and weighs approx. 17lbs or more. He is rapidly approaching the weight limit for the RESQ-Wedge...and will be transitioning to the "real" crib soon (he's been sleeping on the wedge placed in his Pack'N Play crib). Is there another positioning product out there from the RESQ-Wedge inventors for kids over 22lbs?...if not...what would be another effective alternative? Thanks a bunch!
pedi-ot 03-11-2009, 08:57 AM Hi Malena:
I'm going to let you in on a secret. When Dr. Troop and I designed the RES-Q Slings, we made the weight ranges that the slings would actually accommodate much smaller. We did this knowing that parents would order the large sling (12-22 lbs supposedly) even if their baby was for example, between 8-10 lbs. The logic here is a parent will purchase the much larger sling, although way too big, so they don't have to purchase 2 slings (medium and large). In this economy, we certainly understand this logic, however, the slings actually do have a much larger weight range. The large sling will fit infants up to 25-27 lbs, depending on the width/length of the baby.
I see many babies who stay on the wedge until they are a year old depending on their size and if they still want to be on the wedge. I get many emails from parents all over the nation that tell me their babies will not go to sleep if they are NOT on the RES-Q Wedge. Many of these babies are approaching 1 year of age. I received an email from a physical therapist in Washington this week. One of her patients is 21 months and still will not give up the wedge! So, it depends on the size and weight of the baby Malena. If Armando is a big baby, I know many mom's like the Amby bed after the RES-Q Wedge. Hope this helps, but I think he still has some more time to go :)
