Harry's weight is really getting to be a cause for concern. He is just below 18kg (39lbs I think) and he is now 120cm tall. So, good that he is growing but he is so thin now he has hair growing all over his back, shoulders and lower jaw :sad3:

Since he was treated for H Pylori he hasn't complained of feeling nauseous or sick once, but he does say he can't swallow and isn't hungry a lot. How much of this is contributed to by ASD who knows....

Paed appointment/review Monday, will see what they say.

Sorry to hear that, Kate. I can't remember if/ what meds he is on, but could that be a cause? I know Christian's ADHD meds have really decreased his appetite.....so he's almost never hungry, and he is super skinny. (And he has a thin build to begin with). We joke that HE'S the one who needs a feeding tube.....would he be willing to drink a high-calorie shake for breakfast or something? We've done that on and off for C.....

The Ritalin definitely doesn't help his appetite :( but he is also super fussy - ASD issues definitely influence this - and although I try everything to get more food into him he just isn't interested. :hairpull:

 Can you add fats to the things he does eat to get some extra cals in him?

I am sorry that he is having such a rough time of it all. Would he drink anything like pediasure or kindercal?

, Kate...I'm so sorry. I wish there was a way to get more fat and cals into him that you haven't already tried. Would he dip apples or banana into peanut butter? Or celery sticks with peanut butter and full fat cream cheese? I'm not sure if he's a crunchy or smooth kinda guy, kwim? Pediasure makes "granola bar" thingys now...would be go for something like that? Like a candy bar?

Other than putting half and half on his cereal and adding butter to everything under the sun, I'm not one to help in this area, LOL.

How old is he, Kate? Have you tried anything other than Ritalin? My son is on Daytrana patches. These are the same chemical compound as Ritalin, but the delivery is much smoother. There are no highs and lows as with oral meds -- when they kick in and when they wear off. I didn't notice my son's appetite being affected at all. He's always been slender but never thin. With this med, his ped said the likely affect would be that he would gain weight at a slower pace but not that he would lose it. This syncs up with what I've observed in him. Daytrana is targeted at kids aged 6-12.

Thanks everyone. Lesley - not sure if Daytrana is available over here, I will ask but I've not heard of it. He is on a slow release Ritalin which is better than immediate release but not great!

He will eat high calorie things sometimes, but the only thing he will always try are are scones! I make so many types for him, but a lot of the time it's a bite or two only. tbh I don't think he should be as thin as he is on what he eats which is puzzling but he should eat more IYKWIM? Tthe reflux has definitely added to the confusion and there is are now so many reasons why he might not eat it is becoming real worry.

Will see what the paed says on Monday.

Kate I am sorry to hear that. Cooper was always in a good weight range, but about 6 months before we got his adenoids out, he lost heaps of weight and got down under 17kg (but he was 5 and a half then), the dr said this is probably cause of the obstructive sleep apnea, since getting his adenoids out, he has gained good weight.

I dont know if Harry has had his out, but maybe this could be a factor too? Cause they can even regrow.

Otherwise, let us know what the Dr has to say.

Harry had his out last December, it has definitely helped his sleep but not his weight.... He has been the same weight for YERS but at least he IS growing I guess.
