Hi, I am the mother of Nathan and he is 13 months old. He spent the first 2 weeks of his life in the NICU with pneumonia, and persistant fetal circulation. The doctors said that we are very lucky to have taken him home. In a years time he was on 4 antibiotics. At least a 2 week dosage of each, he was hospitalized 4 times for pneumonias, and respiratory problems. He is lacking his thymus gland, so we thought he had an immunedeficiency, but he doesnt. About 1 month ago they put him on Zantac, but when his sinus infection he had since July had never cleared up they ordered a ph probe. The probe showed severe gerd, so now we are on prevacid. I hope it helps. We have to do breathing treatments for asthma, and he is on Augmentin to try to clear the sinus infection. I would love to hear from other mothers who have had similar situations. We are getting ready to try him on regular milk on Nov 1st. He has been on a special formula called Neocate, and then Neocate one plus. very expensive, so I hope he will tolerate regular milk. Thanks, and hope to hear from other parents soon.

Hi there and welcome!
I too have a child who was misdiagnosed for a long time. Evan wasn't diagnosed with GERD until he was 1 1/2 years old. He was often sick, including with colds. The runny nose and cough will still set off his reflux. He takes Losec and Domperidone to help control the symptoms. The meds. help somewhat, but I often have to give him an antihistamine to control the runny nose and hence the vomiting. His inhaler (we diagnosed the asthma ourselves and got the doctor to write the prescription) isn't working and his lungs are becoming irritated. He's scheduled to see a pediatric respirologist (one of the many specialists in his life!) hopefully sooner than later to get a steroid inhaler. Because of the reflux, Evan's immune system is lower than that of most kids his age and he also has global developmental delays. He's 2 1/2 years old now, and is finally learning to walk and to say a few words.

Thank you for your reply. Nathan is on Albuterol, atrovent, and pulmicort treatments with a nebulizer. Right now we are only doing pulmicort 2 times a day, but when his asthma symptoms worsen we do all meds 4 times a day. I am excited about starting Prevacid because I hope that it will clear him up. He is such a happy boy, and he always has slept all nite. He rarely vomits. He gags on his food alot. I guess he would somewhat have silent reflux.
Thanks.
