Hi! I am new to this board, but not to this disease. My fourth child was diagnosed with GER at 3 weeks. She would projectile vomit and have some pain. She was put on Zantac that seemed to work for her and at 10 months outgrew it. Well in November I got pregnant with our fifth child. The whole time I worried whether it was going to happen again. Well my worst fears were realized. She began choking from the get go I guess we were in denial because we came up with all different excuses. Finally at 4 weeks the screaming and obvious pain made us realize there was no more denying her condition. She had an Upper GI the next day. She refluxed three times during the test. I went straight from the test to the doctor who gave her Zantac. After 4 days I knew that wasn't working. So, now she is on Prilosec that seems to be helping. I began doing research on this disease what I found scared me. My daughter had about every symptom, but she was gaining weight.

I am now trying to keep her comfortable along with raising 4 older children and trying to give them a normal life. If that is possible!! I am sorry that other children have to suffer, but it is comforting to know we are not alone in this ordeal.

It is easier than you think. My two oldest are 7 and 9 and are a huge help. The 9 yr old can get the baby to calm down very easy and that helps me with the 2 yr. old. The child right in middle of all these girls is my only boy and he is 4 1/2 yrs. He is very protective of his sisters especially his baby sister. The hardest part is trying to get the older three to there activites while still keeping the baby comfortable.

Hi there and welcome! It's good to hear that you have the help of your older children during this difficult time. My oldest son is 5 years old and a great help with his younger brother too! Sometimes he is the only one that can make his 2 1/2 year old refluxing brother laugh and feel better.
