My son Brendan has been diagnosed with reflux and is just a miserable 2 month old. He is on reglan and zantac for only 4 days. Will it actually help? I have been reading about some children on prilosec. How old do they have to be before they can be placed on it? Is there anything to help him feel better?

Hi there Grits and welcome!
Unfortunately, it's hard to say if the combo. of meds. will work. It's really a trial and error method to see what works. Elevating the head of the crib should help for starters. Also, keep him upright for at least 30 mins. after you feed him. Continue to read through the boards and you'll find lots more ideas.
I don't know how soon Brendan could start on Losec. You'd have to ask the doctor, and I'm sure many of the parents here would like to know the answer.
Good luck and please keep us posted.

Well, Brendan's upper GI showed reflux all the way back up to his throat. It was a surprise that it went that high as he really never vomited. The Zantac seems to be helping and we are hoping to get him off the reglan soon. We found that we can't even lay him on an incline for an hour after he nurses. That is hard as he is nurses every 2 hours. Even harder with a 27 month old. At least we have a diagnosis and now we can go forward. Thanks for being here. :D

No problem! We can all use the support through this difficult journey with reflux. Please keep us posted.
Glad to hear the Zantac seems to be helping. I hope you are able to get him off the Reglan soon, sounds like he still really needs it though. Keep us posted!

Hi Grits,
I'm relatively new to this board too but I would like to offer my support. Zantec can take about a week to work so I hope by now you are seeing some results from using it. My son Oscar, 4 months today, and my daughter Mackenzie, 20 months, were both on Tuesday prescribed Zantec for their 'reflux'. Neither have had any diagnostic tests to determine whether this is what is really troubling them - Oscar is not too bad really I suppose - but Mackenzie's behaviour and sleeping problems have been difficult since she was diagnosed with reflux at 8 weeks - and then taken off meds when she was just over 4 months. Seems she might have been suffering for all that time with no relief at all. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you'll find some great tips on this site and some great support from wonderful, caring people who are facing similiar challenges to you. Look forward to seeing you around.
Cheers,
Marsha
