Hey Lori, I have been wondering about something and thought maybe you could help me out.

Parker had his CT scan and it came back normal, on the notes though they wrote that there is a moderate amount of atelextasis with secondary traction bronchiectasis in the medial right base, which mostly clears with prone positioning.

I really don't understand it (lol), to me though it sounds like something happens when he lies down, why would they count that as nothing? He lies down at least 12 hours a day KWIM? Is this kind of thing normal?

Thanks!

Rachel, atelectasis is an area/areas of lung that aren't well inflated. The secondary traction bronchiectasis is mucous that doesn't get cleared from those areas. The bases of the lungs are the most likely place for that to happen (ie air rises, kwim?). According to the report, these areas go away and the mucous clears when Parker rolls onto his tummy. As long as it clears on it's own, it's not really a problem, so that's why they considered it a "normal" CT.
