hi, my name is Vonnie, my son, Christopher, is now almost six months old, and he was diagnosed with GERD 2 1/2 months ago after a long "process of elimination". The doctors said this wasn't an uncommon problem, so i've never understood why they couldn't figure it out. His upper GI came back neg, but the next Dr. I saw said that 50% of all upper GI's were "falsely neg."!!! After the 5th formula change, he is now on Alimentum with oatmeal to thicken it, which my husband calls "liquid gold", it seems to be working ok, at least he is gaining weight now like he should. He has also been on "reglen", and prevacid. it took a while for the meds to work, he still wouldn't sleep for more than a few hours at a time, so the Dr. added maalox to the mix, and now he finally sleeps at night. the hardest days are when he doesn't stop screaming, it breaks my heart. I feel helpless, like as his mother I should have the answers, but I don't, and it breaks my heart. I know he is in pain, i see it when he cries, and i can smell acid when he throws up...i'm sorry for rambling, I just needed to vent to someone who understands, and knows what i'm talking about, and what we're going through! this is the only group i've joined, and i'm not quite sure what to do from here... :?

Hello Vonnie and Welcome!
I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through such a tough time, but like the rest of us, try to hang in there as best you can. My 6 month old son was recently diagnosed with reflux after way too much time of "process of elimination" as well. So I know what you're going through. On this site, you'll find lots and lots of info. from experienced parents who have gone through or are still going through the same thing. So check back and update us often...looking forward to getting to know you better! :D

Hi Vonnie and welcome! Sorry it has taken so long to welcome you; we just got back from holidays (up north) tonight.
You're definitely not alone in what your going through with Christopher! All of us here know and understand what you're going through. You're sure to find lots of information in the postings on the boards and by asking questions. Ssomeone always seems to have an answer.
My son (Evan) was one of the kids who had the upper GI with no results. (He didn't throw up until in the waiting room after...)
We have what we call "liquid gold" around here too.
Please keep us updated about how Christopher is doing!
