This is such a great site... I found it through another online site I post at....

I am Tracy, my husband and I have a beautiful baby girl who is 4 months old. We found out that she had reflux when she was just 3 weeks of age after a stay in the Children's hospital. They have done some testing... and ultrasound to rule out pyloric stenosis, and then an upper GI... After our stay she was put on Zantac.
She is now taking 2ml of Zantac twice a day and our doctor just added Reglan to our daily routine... because she is still spitting quite a bit and had no weight gain for 2 weeks. She seems to have a mpa/lactose intolerance and was breastfed primarily until an illness reduced my supply significantly. Now she receives most of her feedings by bottle... and mostly soy formula... and about 3-4 feedings of ebm.

I look forward to meeting many of you and recieving and giving support!

Tracy

thank you for the warm welcome.

What things has your doctor done to treat your little one's reflux. I worry as the meds don't seem to do much although we just started the Reglan a few days ago.

We have only had u/s, upper gi done... any other tests your dr's have ordered to check the severity of your childrens' refulx

Hello again,
My son was just recently diagnosed with reflux through trial and error. We first tried switching his formula a few times, eventually onto soy which seemed to suit him well. After numerous visits to the ped., he was finally put on a med called domperidone which after a week or so, really helped with his symptoms. So the peds. theory was that if a reflux med was helping, reflux must be it. My son hasn't had any formal testing for reflux done at all, and I've heard that there really isn't a whole lot of testing that can be done.
Sleeping position is very important for refluxers, most (like my son) find it most comfy to sleep in a semi-upright position. My son, in fact, is still sleeping in his swing to this day, he's nearly 6 months old now. This is the only place he gets any decent sleep. Lying down, even on an elevated mattress was not working at all.
Also, keeping them upright as much as possible after a feed seems to help al lot. Burping frequently during feeds and feeding a little more often instead of a lot at one time is another trick that seems to help.
As for what my dctr. has done.....other than finally listen to me after I suggested reflux might be the reason for his constant crying and fighting while feeding, and prescribing him the domperidone, my dctr. hasn't done a whole lot. Finding this website was what has helped me most to be honest. I'm on here every day trying to get as much info. as I can and get any suggestions to make our daily struggles a little easier. Good luck with everything, I'm sure you'll find this site very useful... :)

Hi again, Stacy! (Gee! I got the spelling right this time without having to edit it afterwards.)

Evan's ped. has him on Losec and Domperidone. They weren't working as well as we would have liked, so we've had to go the "natural" way, even though he's still on the meds.
