i've noticed when i drank milk my son reacted to it,but when i gave birth at the hospital i've been told by the lactation consultant that there's no restriction in the diet just because you're breastfeeding.but with today's crying bout,i'm thinking otherwise.i've never see my son cry for 25 mins with cold hands and feet,oh please help! does anyone have an idea what kind of foods to avoid?

For starters, the acid in tomato and citrus products often make reflux worse, as can milk. I would assume that these would be passed on through the breast milk. Broccoli and cauliflower can also make a baby gassy.

Hope this helps! Is your baby doing any better today?

I was wondering the same thing because I nurse and use formula. I was told at the hospital not to worry about anything that broccoli and other such foods would not cause gas and it was just a myth. However, I am trying to formula feed only for a week to see if my son Timothy's reflux problems decrease. I have tried switching formulas with no luck (soy had the must neg. results), so I am curious to see what will happen. I looked on the foods to avoid for children w/ reflux, and it has foods on the list that I eat often. I am thinkig that my breast milk is feeding fuel to the fire. If you want, I will let you know what happens! I really want to nurse, but it is killing me to watch my son in so much pain.

Any time a baby has reflux, the rules can change with breastfeeding and you have to be very careful with your diet. Frequently, milk products will make it worse so avoid all dairy...also, it's a good idea to avoid all the things that make reflux worse (found on the main site [url=http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com/treatments.htm]here[.url]). If you avoid these things and notice a difference, then slowly start to re-introduce them slowly by on thing at a time so you will be able to tell easily what is causing the problem...although I would leave the dairy to last.
