Hi Everyone,
My youngest son Eli has GERD. He is 20 months old and we have been told probably wont grow out of it. He is taking Prilosec, Bethanacol, and goes tomorrow to find out what to do about the bottom of his tummy not emptying fast enough.... which we dont know much about yet. He has been very sick and weak all week (he was doing well for 3 weeks). Which is how my Mom found this site. Trying to find help for him. Any advice from anyone who has been threw this is greatly appreciated. We are very distressed. I plan on reading the info here now that I have found it. I am relieved to find this. To know I can ask and there are others out there. Thank You.

Hi Erin and welcome!! We are glad you found us and look forward to getting to know you!

It's a little hard to give advice without more info...feel free to post his story on the stories forum, or tell us more about him here. Just know that you are not alone and we are here to help!

I also just found the site, and am happy I did. After I read your story there is one thing I can help you understand. The gastric emptying is important for refluxers to get the food out of the bottom of the stomach as fast as possible so they have less opportunity to throw up. They use Reglan to do this. It speeds up the peristalsis of the smooth muscles in the stomach, and intestine. Good luck, and God Bless.

Hi, well, we just got back the results from the Gastric emptying study and he was at 30% so they want him to start erythromyicin. I havent picked it up yet because I am still struggling with how sick the Bethanecol is making him  This is really frustrating. He will be taking that 3 times a day, the Bethanechol 3 times a day, and the prilosec twice a day.... ugh.
Does everyone else have problems with the bethanechol? And, he doesnt go back to the specialist till the end of July to figure out what to do next.... I am a bit frustrated lately. Thanks for asking about him. We just got back today from a 7 day trip up to the mountains ....we left the day we found out about he is emtpying results and he was sick most of the time we were gone. I am afraid to give him the erythromyicin... I have an allergy to it and hope he doesnt. Sorry for venting! But, thanks I needed it!

Don't worry about venting, Erin! We all need to do it from time to time. I hope all goes well with the erythromyicin. Sorry I can't help you with any meds. info., though. Evan has only ever been on Losec and Domperidone.

Trent was on Erythromycin for a short time. He could not tolerate it. It gave him a terrible upset stomach and gas. He screamed for 2 days straight. When I called his doc, he said Erythro was prone to doing that.
Trent could not tolerate Reglan either because of the tardive dyskinasia symptoms he was experiencing.
Has your son been on Reglan yet. It is supposed to do the same as Erythro.

Hi All, The Dr we have doesnt like Reglan. He said he likes to try the others first (must have had a patient who had a major problem with it) I am still dreading the Erythromycin. Hubby is gone to pick it up. I know it will just make him sick because he is sensitive to everything. I havent been giving him the bethanechol like I should but I am going to start again today with 3 doses instead of 2 at bedtimes. And, I will let you all know how the Erythro goes.... crossing fingers. How are everyone elses little ones doing?[/img]
