I've been so busy lately, havent had time to visit and welcome all the newcomers yet. My youngest boy at almost 4 mos has been having lots of troubles pooping, poor thing is so miserable. I think he has delayed gastric emptying and maybe reflux like my 3 yr old. Anyway, he's being scheduled for a visit to a ped. GI, hopefully they'll see him soon.

My source of frustration is about my 3 yr old boy. He's transitioning from Early Intervention since he turned 3 and now the school district takes over. They wanted all new evals for him to determine what he will need/what program to send him to in September. These evaluations are all WAY off base. My boy is speech delayed, orally defensive and has problems paying attention. These are all related to his reflux and DGE going undiagnosed from birth till age 2 1/2. He just completed the month long feeding camp at st jos and has had more progress with eating, speech and everything else in the past month than he's had in almost 2 yrs of traditional therapies. If I had listened to his previous pediatrician & his therapists from EI, he'd be getting treatment for autism spectrum disorder, sensory integration disorder, attention deficiency, pervasive ddev. disorder etc and NOT REFLUX.

Why cant ANY of these docs, therapists and other "specialists" understand that when you feel like crap you dont want to socialize, when you can't eat because it makes you sick, you'll get orally defensive? on and on. Every one of the evaluators were told of his history and only one report mentions reflux - and that in passing as if it didnt matter. How can I "prove" that the only thing wrong with my boy is that he never felt well enough to learn until very recently? Are there any kind of tests, brain scans or something that can tell these people that he's neurodevelopmentally ok?

I am just SOOOOO mad at the lack of understanding about the profound impact this disease can have on development. HOW can we make them understand?????

Thanks for the venting session, I'll come back to welcome the newcomers when I'm feeling a bit less HOSTILE and WISHING SUFFERING AND PAIN on these "specialists"!!!

Sorry that you are having so much trouble with the new "specialists" Phyllis! ((HUGS))! Is there any way that you can get the people from St. Joseph's to intervene and help convince them with letters or studies or anything?

Good luck with 4 month old! Keep us posted!
