I meant to ask you how you are keeping the tube taped to Seth's face? I might be able to give you ideas to help keep it on better. Is he pulling it out frequently?

I am using tegaderm. It is a clear tape that stays on pretty well, but when I pull it off, it really leaves his face red for at least 2 days. I would love any suggestions that you have. The tape is one of the worst parts of the tube. He has only pulled it out 2x in 2 weeks. So, it isn't too bad. I just hate putting it back it. He screams so hard! Advice is welcome! thanks! Kelly

Well, first of all....I wouldn't put it back in! Of everything that I had to learn to take care of her medical needs, inserting that NG tube was one thing I refused to do. We would take her to our family doctor or the ER when it would come out.

The best thing to use is a cream called cavilon first. It's made by 3M and is supposed to make tape easier to remove. Put the cream wherever the tape will go and let it dry. Once it's dry I put an extra thin duoderm tape on then the tube, and hypafix over that. It worked great. I also taped the tube down all the way back to very edge of her cheek, almost to her neck..it kept it behind her, going right straight down her back and less in the way...plus if it gets pulled, there's less chance of it getting pulled out if there's more tape there. We also kept mittens (actually, her socks as mittens... ) on her hands when she was very young, it made it that much harder for her to grab the tube.

You can also use something like aquaphor cream or zinc to help the redness heal.

Hope that helps.

How funny Roni!
I always used to put socks on Maeve's hands too! Especially riding in the car-she always got it out then. Everyone always teased me, but I'd rather she look funny than have to drop that NG. (My husband was the tube dropper-I used to hide in the bathroom  )

 I know, you may notice in all Shae's early photos she looks like a nut with socks on her hands!

I can't believe that your husband would put the tube in!!! OMG, my husband would barely even hold her while the doctor did it! I'd be hiding in the corner crying almost as hard as Shae   !

He was good at it too! He would be so proud of himself when he cut a good piece of duoderm! I used to take Maeve to my husband's work, he'd come out to the car, climb in, close the door and put it in while she was in her car seat. People were probably wondering what was going on when they saw us both climbing out of the back of the car:oops: At least I can laugh about it now...

Just curious to how many of your little refluxers are tube fed?

Evan is not tube fed, but I wanted to say how much I like the idea of socks on the hands while driving. I just may have to try that to keep Evan's new glasses on in the van.
