I just got back home from a last minute, unplanned dash to the pharmacy. I picked up the next round of Evan's meds on Monday and was getting them ready for tomorrow. One of the internal wrappings looked a little funny, so I looked further and realized that they had given us a double dosage of Evan's Losec. He's supposed to have 10 mg, but they gave us a package of 20 mg. Can you believe it? The pharmacist was nice and apologetic (even though it wasn't her fault). She assured me that she'll tell the manager and that it wouldn't have been harmful to him. Does anyone know if that's really true? Would it have been safe to give him twice the dose of Losec?

This same pharmacy sent info. papers home with his meds a month ago with someone else's name, address and phone number. I'm sure the lady wouldn't have been too happy to have us know that she had a vaginal yeast infection!   They were going to track down where Evan's info. sheet had been sent, but we never did hear back. Pretty scary eh?

It is scary! I always try to remember that the people that work there are only people just like us and like us they make mistakes too. It's just worse when it happens at a place like that b/c it's people's health and even lives on the line, same as doctors and hospitals and such. I don't know how they handle the pressure of that. I used to work as a pharmacy tech and I was always terrified about making a mistake. Two mistakes by them in a couple weeks doesn't sound like a good track record though... :? . Don't expect to find that info sheet by the way...

I'm not really sure about the answer to your Losec question, I think I'd tend to agree with the pharmacist, although he would certainly have an ulterior motive for telling you that :(. I remember a couple summer's ago Shae was having a really bad month and one day I called the ped for help and he told me to double her dose of Losec.

I would find a different pharmacy, Janette!
I don't think the double dose of Losec would hurt Evan temporarily, but in my medical book, it does say that higher doses than what is needed could cause GI bleeding over time.
Still, 2 mistakes back to back would bother me. That's great that you are smart enought and aware enough to notice when they give you the wrong thing, but what about the ones that aren't ? (especially the elderly).
And, talk about about patient privacy, if my info sheet was sent to someone else, I would be pretty upset. It's a small world out there and you never know who is going to get it!
