Lately I've noticed that Maeve's tongue looks kinda weird. It has a white-ish coating on it (it's not thrush). I am sorta thinking it's cause nothing ever really goes in her mouth but I wondered if anyone else has ever seen anything like that. Also, her breath is SO stinky-any ideas how to get rid of that?

Evan's tongue is like that too, and he does eat and drink orally. The doctor says that it's milk stains, but I don't really believe that. Does anyone think that it's reflux related?

Hummm, weird...I've never heard that before :? . We've never had that problem with Shae....she does have terrible breath all the time though...phew :lol: .

I'm no expert and i couldn't swear to it but i have noticed that along the years i've seen a few of my patients with g tubes also get white tongue ..i think it's from mouth breathing what we normaly do it just really good mouth care and keep their mouths well moisten..usually the white stuff clears up after a gentle swabbing with a moist soft gauze..well i hope thats helpful ...

Thanks for responding, Daniele. Interestingly enough, my son is not tube fed. We've always done really good oral care, but I'll try doing a swabbing with gauze.

Could it be thrush??

oh 'm sorry i thought it may have been because of a g tube ... :lol: it could very well be thrush ,just ask your pedi the next time you see him/her.I've noticed Alanna also gets a white coat on her tongue but i've just chalked it up to when she refluxes...We use these spongey things on lollipop sticks at work for mouth care (toothettes"i think they are called )..i've been using them on Alanna and for the most part her tongue is looking pretty good . ..they're flavored with mint and she doesn't seem to mind ..unlike the nasal aspirator :wink:
