Hannah my four year old had an ear infection about 3 weeks ago. she was on ear drops and antibiotics. Anyway, we thought it was better and about 2 weeks ago she started saying she had a sore ear again. i kind of ignored it as for a while we thought it was an attention thing. Anyway, tonight when i was reading a story in bed i noticed something in her ear canal....like wax but it was whiter and HARD...real hard. when i tried to move it with my finger it was like rock and she screamed. Anyway, i waited until she was asleep and i went in with tweezers. She woke so i had to sit ontop of her and i pulled it out!! it was hard and about 2cm long...it looked like a long blob of wax mixed with cotton wool.....i think she has stuck some cotton wool in her ear and it has been there all along causing her so much pain!! i tell ya, between that and the battery swallowing i dont know how much more i can take!!! lets hope there is no more...im going back in in half an hour to check..:sad3:

:sign11: YUCK!! :smt036

I'm glad you got that blob of ick out of her ear! I have to tell you, my sister did the same thing when she was 3 or 4 years old. My mom thought she had an EI and took her to the ped. (I was along for the visit, too.) Anyway, at that time, they used to routinely clean out our ears with the warm water flush and did this with her. Out came some gunk, along with the head of a Q-Tip!

Mom hid the Q-Tips from us from then on. :smt036

Poor Hannah, that must have been painful (especially waking to find you pulling at it at her ear, but you have to do what you have to do)

I would take her in anyway and make sure that it is all clear. It may have caused an infection or something while in there.

Do you use cotton balls with the ear drops she had? Maybe that was what it was from?

Oh, poor baby girl! Something similar happened to me when I was little but it was all wax in my ear. My mom said it was the size of a kidney bean! UCK!!! Hope your little girl feels better now!

Ewww.....

But....I do have a story.....my dad at like, 50 years old!!! liked to clean out his ears with paper clips!!!!! And, you guessed it, ONE GOT STUCK!! Seriously, he had to go to the doctor to have it removed. So, it's not just the kiddos sticking things in their ears!! And I must admit, I always use q-tips to clean my ears after a shower. I hate it when my ears feel wet inside.

A guilty q-tip user here too.

Nik - that is really huge! Are you going to take her in? Just to be sure you got it all?

I can just see you sitting on her trying to pull something out of her ear.
