Roni, in your experience would you recommend I try various types of formulas to see if it alleviates the amount and frequency that she is spitting up? Or, is this something she's going to do regardless of the formula?

View Full Version : formula switch?? mrich1028 02-20-2004, 10:49 AM Roni, in your experience would you recommend I try various types of formulas to see if it alleviates the amount and frequency that she is spitting up? Or, is this something she's going to do regardless of the formula? Roni 02-20-2004, 03:31 PM For Shae-Lynne it was definitely a matter of finding a formula that she could tolerate. We would notice her get worse on a formula in a matter of minutes after her being put on it. She was switched about ten times before we found one that she did the best on (Neocate) and it's definitely true that food allergies can make reflux worse. You could ask the pediatrician about trying a more hypo-allergenic formula like Nutramigen or Alimentum, they are more expensive though than the standard formulas. Even trying Good Start may help (not nearly as expensive as the others), it's proteins are partly broken down (the Nutramigen and Alimentum are even more broken down) so that there isn't as much work needed to digest it, it should move out of the stomach a little faster than Similac or a soy based formula. We knew instantly with Shae that the formula she was on was making her worse, it was very obvious, if you switch pay very close attention to how she responds to it, if there's no difference than I would suggest that the spitting up is something she is going to do regardless of the formula. Having said that, you may find one that she does better on and she may stop throwing up (although it would surprise me if anything made her stop completely), the best you can hope for is finding one that helps decrease the spit ups. I just realized I rambled and I guess I didn't really answer your question very well, sorry :P , I hope I helped a little anyway  . honeybunny78 02-24-2004, 08:54 AM Whatever formula you go on make sure that you try it for 2 weeks. ~RACHEL Roni 02-28-2004, 07:45 AM Did you decide to try the formula switch? |
