Hello my name is Daniele and a few weeks ago my 3 week old baby girl , began to scream and wiggle during and after feedings, she would scream and was unconsolable. I'm breastfedding her so naturaly i did a web search on colic. I also began to eliminate anything and everything that would cause her tiny lil GI tract any discomfort In my mind i was thinking "wonderful my last baby has colic" ... and i really wasn't sure how i was going to be able to cope but babies out grow colic so there was a light at the end of the tunnel but days went by and nothing eased her discomfort and she bagan to vomit after each feeding and began to feed more often actaully it was constant . I started noticing she was more symptomatic of G.E.R.D ..so here we are doing a lil more research on it ..i'm more familar with gerd in the elderly but it seems like they treat infants with the same meds so thats a comfort at least i know what the options are .she started on Zantac just this past saturday  i think zantac is over prescribed isn't very effective but we're going to try it >i just wish i could ease her pain ..it really breaks my heart every time she begins that blood curdiling scream ..and as far as coping.... i may not sleep, eat ,shower or even get to brush my teeth at least she's here and she's mine. i still get that warm mushy feeling when i look at her and my heart melts like the first time i held her ..wow i think i've gone on long enough

Hi and welcome Daniele, nice to see you here!

I hope the Zantac starts to help soon and don't worry, she'll very likely out grow this within a few months (not much help right now, I know :( ).

 Don't worry, eating, sleeping, and personal grooming are over rated anyway...

Shae's almost four and I still have those same feelings.

Thank you so much Roni for the kind words and welcome .I've been telling every body about your web site and how much it's help put my mind to ease about my baby girls' problem with reflux. you know it's kind of funny when we found out she had PKU like our second son Connor it wasn't a big deal ..we knew what we where in for.I still don't know why i just "freaked"when she became symptomatic for reflux, maybe i can thank being post partum for that .....I just find myself thinking some time "what else could possibly go wrong now",perhaps thats why things keep happening maybe i should just stop obessing and enjoy whatever good news i get ..ah yes like yesterday we had an appt with her endocronologists( forgive the misspelling) and she gained a whole ounce since last thursday.(.whoo hooo :D ) and i'm working on a new method of feeding her, i'm trying to get her to eat smaller portions more often ..this involves waking her up which she doesn't like but ..I am seeing some positive results as far as reflux ,now it just looks like normal amounts of baby spit up... not so much vomitting .It's funny how excited i get over this and her bowel movents ..well speaking of the lil devil .She's calling  and again Thank you Roni

  It's funny what can excite us after awhile huh!

WOOHOO on the weight gain!!!! That's awesome news!

When was she diagnosed with PKU?

I've had a few of those, "what now" moments over the past years myself, it seems as though it never rains but it pours! I always try to remember that no matter how bad things get, there are people that have it worse. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't  .

Hope to see you back here again soon.

We knew there was a possibility for Alanna to have PKU because we have an older son who also has it ..it was DX at birth thanks to newborn screening. We are very fortunate to have as much support for the local clinic .The food and formula is very expensive but in RI we recive everything we need thanks to state funding .We have a great support system and My oldest Connor now 7 is thriving and it seems Alannas' PKU is about the same as far as managing she may not be able to liberal in her diet but she's doing just as well ..and for the GERD i have to say she seems to really be responding to the zantac .we haven't had an episode of her doing that vomiiting scene for the exorsist for almost a week now and she's a whopping 8 lbs now speak of the devil ...take care all ...

I'm so glad to hear the Zantac is helping so much! That's great news, you have enough on your plate without having the exorist (read: reflux) rear it's ugly head!
