Hi

After talking to the Dr (ped) and trying to make sense of what he was telling me... I double checked Zach's b/w
The allergist tested for Pneumonococcal Immunity 14 type
13 out of 14 came back with a result of less than 1.0
Nothing registered in the abnormal range but the note below the test reads:
Antibody concentrations of greater than 1.0 post vaccination are typically indicative of a response sufficient to confer protective immunity

I guess that's the issue?
I don't know..if his ped thinks we should do this as well..I guess we will
I made Zach an appt for tomorrow am (lovely...poor kid)
He also said Zach has a ragweed allergy which is mostly an issue in the Fall...I don't know what to do about his allergy meds now
I now those tests aren't 100%

No, the tests aren't 100% in kids. *Sigh* But you knew that. :-(

Kim, have you been able to *sort of* figure out what triggers him at this point? If so, is there a way you can keep him on the allergy meds (that is, if they're working) and keep him away from things that seem to trigger him--at least until he's a bit older and testing might give you a more conclusive answer? (I know, this is NOT a simple answer.) :sad5:

What does your doc say about all of this? I mean, we all know the tests aren't 100% accurate, but it seems frustrating that some allergists seem to take the results as gospel truth and blow off any symptoms that contradict their findings. :sad3:

Hey Mary

I don't know what the allergist thinks about the results (but since I was told we don't need a follow-up..enough said), since I'm still waiting for his return call
He clearly told me in his office that though that he prefers the skin test and based on the blood work would have Zach back in the office for more skin testing
He also said based on Dh's history (horrific allergies) he was pretty confident we were dealing with some seasonal stuff
BUT, I'm not even going to pursue that with this guy...no thanks!

I love our ped in a sense, but have also gotten the brush off or referral to a allergist or GI for Zach's symptoms
I am taking Zach to the ped tomorrow for the vaccine so I may give it a whirl and bring all of this up again

My head hurts :(

Are you sure it isn't worth going back to the allergist and seeing what he has to say? Didn't you say in there he was quite good? Maybe it was just the stupid nurse saying that? I would still go he has the history.

With the vaccination, it looks like getting it again is the best thing to do. Has he had his IgG looked at? After they are three they can do an immunity test which can actually pinpoint a subclass they are deficient in, so you may have normal IgG but have a low Ig subclass (Parker does) and it has explained a lot in terms of the types of illnesses he gets and also with his vaccinations, he looses protection too. But he has been re vaccinated and done well with them all.
