View Full Version : One step forward, ten steps back
sixdogssixcats 05-03-2008, 10:36 AM Catherine adores, absolutely adores, her ballet teacher. Today, her ballet teacher happened to be on vacation and there was not only a substitute teacher, but a MAN subsitutute teacher. I had to carry her into the class kicking and screaming. She sat on my lap the whole time with her face buried in my shoulder and wouldn't even turn around and watch the other girls for the first thirty minutes. Ugh!
Vicki P 05-03-2008, 10:59 AM Come to think of it, MALE ballet teachers are a little scary.....:smt036
Debbie 05-03-2008, 11:21 AM Ahhhhh! I hates the backards steps...hope she is moving forward again soon:hug:
Katey 05-03-2008, 12:14 PM That's too bad. I guess that shows how lucky you were that she got the teacher she did. I hope she will be back next week.
Leigh 05-03-2008, 01:29 PM Oh, how I can commisserate.
We have had Iain in swimming lessons for nearly 2.5 years now and it has only been the last 6 months that he will accept a substitute teacher when it is necessary. Each time before, he would spend the time on the side of the pool in complete meltdown and full launch while we watched our private lesson money blow away. :hairpull:
It is great that she found something she loves. In time, as with Iain, she will find that her difficulty with transition of dealing with a new teacher will become moot as her desire for the program will supercede everything. KWIM? Iain will now hop into the pool with anybody. We still have compliance issues once in there, but he will at least get in and enjoy his lesson regardless.
Iain also still has horrific days when there is a teacher change at daycare. It is all about routine, change and transitions and some kids have a REALLY difficult time with all of that.
 I hope she adjusts.
:hug: I hope you have stopped twitching by now. ;)
sixdogssixcats 05-03-2008, 01:49 PM On top of this, we went to the new student picnic at school today and there was a :censored: clown there making balloon animals. She wouldn't even go in the building.
The finale comes this evening, when we leave her with a babysitter for the first time ... :sad3:
Vicki P 05-03-2008, 02:36 PM :haha: Sorry, but I really hated clowns as a kid!! WAY to creepy....I can totally commiserate with Catherine on the clown thing....my clown-o-phobia was solidified by the movie "It" , based on the book by Steven King.
Leigh 05-03-2008, 05:08 PM Wait. You are going out?! And leaving her with a babysitter?!
*clutches heart and falls over*
You are a braaaave woman!
It really should be the icing on the cake for little Miss. :hairpull: Then again, they sure can surprise you. I hope she likes the critter sitter.
Have fun tonight. You deserve it.
Shaes Grammy 05-03-2008, 05:14 PM I am 55 and just learning I don't do well in certain situations....sigh. Today was a First Holy Communion church service for a child I know....by the end of Mass I just did not feel well.
People smell, some good, some bad....sigh
Some are noisey, some nosey
Some cranky, some just too giggly for me
I was glad to get out of there
Big big big hugs to Catherine. Will she grow out of this sensory stuff? At least she doesn't have to wait until she is 55 to know she is affected by something
Have an awesome time tonight. Where you going? Is it a special occassion?
A male ballet teacher...okaaaaay!!! :smt036 I am trying to picture that one! I hope the regular teacher comes back by the next class.
I hope the evening goes well for you tonight...you deserve some "time off". :party0049:
sixdogssixcats 05-03-2008, 10:32 PM The little miss was still up and going strong when we got home around 10:00pm. I told the girl not to even bother trying to put her to bed, but I honestly thought she would have passed out on her own by then. No reported incidents, but Catherine told me she did not like the girl. The way we set it up was that Trey was actually babysitting and responsible for care and entertaining, and the girl was just there to make sure the house didn't burn down. Trey is very good with Catherine. It likely wouldn't have gone so well if he'd not been there.
We went to the annual meeting of the South Texas Yale Alumni to hear the editor of Charles Lindbergh's autobiography speak. It was at a ritzy restaurant and very interesting. One of dh's students is going to Yale in the fall, and his parents (both alums) invited us.
